Review

When James MacDonald speaks, I lean forward in my chair to catch every word. He communicates the Word of God with a deep commitment to the truth and with a great understanding of the people who hear him. His book, Lord, Change My Attitude (Before It's Too Late) captures in written style the excitement of his pulpit presentations. He makes you want to hear what God has said, and, better still, you find yourself wanting to do it.
-David Jeremiah, Turning Point Ministries

Since our attitude determines our actions, it is critical to begin thinking right so that we can begin living right. In this fine work, James MacDonald gives each of us the principles necessary for developing a better attitude so we can live a better life.
-Dr. Tony Evans, president, The Urban Alternative, senior pastor, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship

Some books are filled with truth, other books are fun to read, and a few books change your life. But rarely does one book do all three. So, if you long to change, but don't mind enjoying the process, then Lord, Change My Attitude is for you. It's a winner!
-Chip Ingram, chairman & CEO of Living on the Edge

From the Back Cover

It's not about your struggles.

It's not about your circumstances.

It's not about your relationships.

It's about your attitude.

In this bestseller, James MacDonald reveals just how much our attitudes affect our lives. Drawing on the experience of the Israelites who grumbled in the wilderness, he shows how bad attitudes rob us of joy and wholeness. Our hearts weren't made for coveting, complaining, and being critical. They were made for thankfulness, contentment, and love. Is your heart straining under the weight of a bad attitude?

If you're looking for easy answers or a quick fix, this book isn't for you. But if you're ready for a serious, inside-out attitude adjustment, there is no better place to start than this: "Lord, change my attitude . . . before it's too late."

While some books written by pastors tend to take on a more seminary-holier-than-thou type language, I was pleasantly surprised by how down-to-earth James MacDonald wrote this life-changing book, even adding a little humor at times. None of his points were ever over my head or beyond reach but rather created several of those "uh-huh that's me..." or "so that's what that means..." or "why didn't I think of that?" moments.

The book is comprised of 10 chapters--5 chapters covering 5 major attitude issues (complaining, covetousness, criticism, doubt, and rebellion) and 5 attitude adjustments (thankfulness, contentment, love, faith, and submission). When I started the year, I was having some pretty strong struggles with most of these major issues due some events that happened towards the end of 2011. That said, it has been amazing to see how the Lord has changed my attitude and even my situations as I've worked through this book.

With Number 13-14 as the focal passage for the book, MacDonald demonstrates how the Israelites chose each of the 5 attitude issues and how making attitude adjustments changed their outcome. While I've done several studies on the journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land, this is the first one I've ever seen focusing on the heart of the reason they were left to wander in the wilderness for forty years. Did you know that the number one reason God chose to let the Israelites wander is the desert and eventually die was their attitude? Yep, says it right there in Numbers 14:26-30.

"The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, "How long shall I bear with this evil congregation who are grumbling against Me? I have heard the complaints of the sons of Israel, which they are making against Me.

I like the book. It has great content and message. At first, I was excited to read it. It is just that it is too repetitive, redundant to the point of near exhaustion. Like a broken-record. Perhaps, for new believers or not well-versed in the Bible yet it is fine. But for those who are walking with God for sometime, it is like going back and forth to "A B C". Excessively monotonous. But I love the author. I'm giving him 5 stars for his other book(s). I would just suggest to be less repetitive; especially, in the bad attitude to be replaced, and instead to focus more on the solution or good attitude. That way, it would be more effective. Thank you.

"Attitude determines altitude." This and many other truths encourage as you discover the reasons why you're "wandering in the wilderness" rather than "living in the Promised Land." James MacDonald uses lessons learned from the Israelites' desert wanderings to show why we are so lonely, bitter, frustrated, isolated, and empty. He then shows how to replace those bad attitudes with God-pleasing ones to get you out of that desert and into the promised land. If you have fallen into the pit of stinkin' thinkin', this book will show you how to climb out.

This is a great Bible study if you truly want to change your attitude. James MacDonald has an easy to read and understand style that gets the most out of the Word of God. He covers 10 attitudes putting off each of five negetive attitudes and replacing them with 5 positive attitudes using the Isrealites in Numbers as examples. This is the second time I have done this study and I really needed the review. This is a book you will want to read and review every year or so.

James MacDonald beautifully points out 5 troublesome, destructive, sinful attitudes and the freedom we have, in Christ to choose their opposites. Victorious living is in your reach. I'm greatly encouraged by the principles given here because I had fallen into a grumbling, murmuring state of mind. Applying these principles has lifted me from that pit of despair.

This book was very helpful. I didn't realize how much I complained about trivial stuff (let alone big stuff) until I read this book. Complaining really matters to God. I have work to do. Thank you for helping me see things clearly. Easy to read and understand. I would recommend this book.
