"Wright combines a sharp homiletical style with his rich background as a New Testament scholar. . . . A helpful book for the devotional life of beginning prayers as well as for the more mature Christian, not only during Advent, but also throughout the church year." --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

For Wright, The Lord's Prayer is an invitation into the Fatherhood of God and to live in the kingdom of heaven that we pray comes to earth. The prayer reveals the Lord and his will for our lives. He writes, "Jesus' message summons us to focus our thoughts on the coming Kingdom of God." Wright does not teach the prayer rigidly but he expounds on several ways to incorporate it into our devotional lives. This book is not an exhaustive look at the prayer. It is more of a hospitable welcoming introduction to it.
Wright asserts that "Our task is to grow up into the Our Father, to dare to impersonate our older brother, seeking daily bread and daily forgiveness as we do so." We are to follow the examples of the apostles who continued praying and living the Lord's Prayer. I think readers will be encouraged to do so and to continue to study and reflect on the prayer and what each phrase signifies.
In a time when fewer and fewer churches are corporately praying the Lord's Prayer, this is a helpful book to spark a resurgence in obeying Jesus by praying the prayer he taught us. This is a great book for small groups to discuss. Wright doesn't say all that could be said about the Prayer but what he says he says well.
This is a challenging book written in graceful prose. He digs deeper into faith, prayer, and the Kingdom, than our conventional teachings have offered. After I finished reading this book, I immediately turned to the first page and read it again, taking notes. I expect to be reading it again soon.
