About the Author

Simon Spurrier started writing at an early age, contributing to fan magazines and amateur short story forums from the age of 14. At 18 he received his first professional commission with UK comic 2000AD and has since become a regular writer of comics, short stories and - lately - novels with Warhammer Monthly, Inferno!, The Megazine, the Black Library and Black Flame. In 2003 he won a bursary with the National Academy of Writing following a screenwriting competition in the Times newspaper.

Simon "Si" Spurrier writes novels and comics.

His work in the latter field stretches from award winning creator-owned books such as 'The Spire', 'Coda' and 'Angelic' to projects in the U.S. mainstream like 'Hellblazer', 'The Dreaming' and 'X-Men'. He and his works have been nominated for Eisner Awards multiple times.

His prose works range from the beatnik neurosis-noir of 'Contract' ("A tour de force" - The Times) to the occult whodunnit 'A Serpent Uncoiled' ("Gargantuan literary flourishes" - The Truth About Books). His experimental e-novella 'Unusual Concentrations' was shortlisted for the Shirley Jackson Awards.

He lives in Margate, UK.

It's an interesting tale worth reading.

It could be a little confusing in the beginning if you do not realize who's perspective the author is describing. Once you get past this, the story develops just fine. It is basically a tale of two diametrically opposed individuals who's paths intersect and through introspective journeys, each one discovers their own place in the 40k universe. It is different from what they believe it to be in the beginning of the novel. This all unfolds against the squalor, violence, intrigue, and corruption of an Imperial Hive. Many subplots are revealed as the story progresses. What initially begins as the story of a rampaging Chaos Marine, develops into an orchestrated series of manipulations that culminate in a conclusion that has little meaning to those swept away in the resulting carnage and cruel revelations. The aftermath alluded to in the novel's epilogue is somewhat anticipated, but is no less poignant. Everybody is entitled to their opinion and if they choose to focus on aspects of this story they disliked, then let us mourn their lost time. For me, this novel was yet another fine example of Simon Spurrier's talent as a storyteller. I look forward to the sequel if it is currently in production. I strongly recommend you read this book and if you enjoy it as much as I have, you should check out 'Fire Warrior', which gives a similar insight into the life of a Tau soldier.

It's really a shame that this didn't get a sequel, as Lord of the Night is one of the better WH40K books. It's look into the Night Lords is really useful to have, as I appreciate any story that doesn't have the Traitor Marines as something that isn't there for bolter fodder.

A good look at him and an Imperial psyker evolving. Another thing that there is not enough of in WH 40K.

A doomed legion seeking to find itself and reclaim its former glory, Zso Sahaal is the long lost (literally) heir to the Cornona Nox (the Crown of Night, the crown of Night Haunter). This book follows the efforts of Zso Sahaal to reclaim the stolen Corona Nox. If you are curious to how a Night Lord legionary thinks, operates, and behaves, this is a perfect example.

Im not sure why this book hasnt gotten more raves than it has. This is and excellant,well written story and is much better than I expected it to be. The development and uniqueness of the Night Lords is very well done, as is the character development of the Inquisitress. The w40k fiction universe is fantastic,but in desperate need of some fresh life and different character behaviors. This book really achieves that, and I would love to see a sequel.

I just finished Lord of the Night and really enjoyed this book. It is about Zso Sahaal, a traitor space marine, who is the leader of the Night Lord Legion and must recover a stolen artifact. The book is about instilling fear into your enemy. There is lots of action and gore. The book is very vivid and there is wonderful character development. The book alternates between the two protagonist's points of view but flows well.

Obwohl Lord of the Night inzwischen bereits älter ist und nicht mit den neueren Night Lord und Horus Heresy Roman synkronisiert ist, fängt es den Zeitgeist der Horus Heresy besser ein, als ein Großteil der neuen 40k. Romane. Der Roman fängt den besonderen 40k. Flair mit absoluter Präzision ein und hat ohne Zweifel massenweise Leser zum Chaos (bzw. zu den Night Lords konvertiert). Aus meiner Sicht ist Lord of the Night das geheime Juwel der Black Library, das den Test der Zeit bestanden hat und einen scharfen Maßstab für Warhammer Romane setzt.

Einziges kleines Manko des Romanes ist, dass er vom Leser voraussetzt, dass er bereits gut mit dem Warhammer 40k. Setting vertraut ist. Einem Neuling könnte ansonsten der Einstieg in den Roman merkwürdig vorkommen und ihm könnte die Tiefe der Gefühle der Charaktere sowieso die Wichtigkeit ihrer Aufgaben entgehen.

Insgesamt ist Lord of the Night ein Roman, der einem noch lange nachhängen wird, nachdem man das Buch zugeschlagen hat. Für 40k. Fans ist er ein muss. Für alle anderen ist er absolut empfehlenswert.

Fantastisches Buch für jeden 40k Fan. Die Geschichte ist Aufgrund der verschiedenen Perspektiven (Sahaal/Ashyn) und häufigen "twists" enorm fesselnd. Das unerwartete Ende ist mehr als gelungen. Ebenfalls bemerkenswert ist die Charakterentwicklung, Simon Spurrier ist es gelungen so tief in die Psyche es Antagonisten einzutauchen das man beinahe mit ihm sympatisieren möchte.
Auch mit nicht 40k Büchern im Vergleiche ist es als gelungenes Buch zu betrachten. Jedoch dürften Leser die nicht über gute Englich Kenntnisse verfügt und mit der 40k Therminologie vertraut sind ihre Probleme haben.

An really enjoyable book with a great story, interesting and complex characters and last but not least, a kind of happy ending ^^ I love the Night Hunter, Sahal (and the Nightlords - mostly). Seeing the Inquisition nearly outwitted by just one traitor Marine (and even that depends on your point of view) isn't bad either. So I can really recommend this amazing book to all HH and warhammer-fans.
