The characterization also shows amazing insight into the struggles of the human soul with the reality of the world that is presented to them and that of the supernatural and the eternal which are hidden from the senses. An excellent example would be the comparison and contrast of the protagonist, Fr. Percy Franklin, and the antagonist and Lord of this world, Julian Felsenbugh. They look alike, but they are very different on the inside. How did the author do this? Read the book.
I recommend this book not only to Catholics, but also to,other committed Christians and anyone else who is concerned about the direction that western civilization is going. This book will inspire you and frighten you, and hopefully set you on fire for the Faith, because in the book, it is only those souls who have an interior, a prayer life, who are able to resist the lure of the world and the eloquent speech of Felsenbugh. How is this done? Read the book. Read it!
I'm giving this product 2 stars for 2 reasons:
1) the text is very small (see included picture). This would be very difficult to read if you have any sight problems.
2) there are no page numbers (!). I'm not sure if this is just a defect, but my book doesn't have page numbers. Keep this in mind if you are someone who likes to jot down notes or refer to pages, but also in general it's convenient to have page numbers for keeping track of your progress.
It might Be worth noting that this product is published on-demand when you order it, which could explain the lack in quality.
Top international reviews
As a science fiction novel written in 1906 it makes a good stab at life in 2006. As a novel it's a bit disjointed in places, with some of the characters needing more fleshing out. The finale is totally not 21st century: no bullet-time kung-fu knock out fight between the anti-Christ and our hero, for a start. It fits into that category of novels that includes 'Brave New World', 'We' and 'That Hideous Strength', it shows its age, but is not the worse for it.
The cover is made up of just one picture on the front, which is grainy, like a picture with a low resolution downloaded from the internet. It is an ugly book to look at, resembles more a copy you would make at home by printing a free downloaded text.
Once opened i noticed there is no numeration whatsoever and the print is very small.
I consider this quality issues very disappointing, as i buy regular books and not e-books because i enjoy holding a nice book.
This review is referred to the edition in which there is a man sitting on a throne with some people bowing in front of him. The overall colors are a dark-green, mint-green, yellow and red. (I give this description since amazon considers reviews of books not for the single edition but for the book, as if the review was only about the content)
