Okay I have to admit something….Losing Kyler by Siobhan Davis blew me away! I’m not usually a fan of YA contemporary, mainly because I loathe drama and teen angst. Knowing this about me, you are probably wondering why I even bothered reading this book. Honestly, it’s because I love the author and her other sci-fi series. Siobhan Davis is the master at writing complex characters, heart-stopping action/suspense, and swoon-worthy kisses. Seriously, sometimes a kiss takes a couple of pages worth of a book….that is one heck of a kiss!
But I digress, Losing Kyler is written in the same vein as The Royals series by Erin Watt. There is a ton of drama, a whole host of characters with their own, real-life problems, and more twists and turns then your run of the mill soap opera. Despite the teen angst, I found myself thoroughly engrossed. The book picks up right where Finding Kyler left off. So, if like me you’ve been on pins and needles wanting to know what happens, you get answers fairly quick.
Faye is not one of my favorite characters, even though she is the main character and it is told from her perspective. It’s not that I don’t like her, I do, she’s just hard to like, and sometimes a little hard to stomach. She claims to hate drama and tries to stay away from it, yet she seems to always be the center of it and even creates a little herself.
And then there is Kyler, the book’s namesake. I don’t like him. Sorry, it had to be said. He’s arrogant and his treatment of Faye is abhorrent. At times he’s the best and at other times the worst. I can’t understand how she could ever forgive him or be with him. Love is funny like that I guess. Personally I would’ve kicked him to the curb.
Now Brad on the other hand *swoon* Brad is Ky’s best friend and Faye’s fake boyfriend so you can guess where this is going. There’s a semi-triangle going on but it gets resolved quickly (thankfully, triangles make my eye twitch). Brad is kind and a genuinely good guy. So of course I’m #TeamBrad.
Overall Losing Kyler is a fast-paced, engrossing read. It’s like a train wreck that you can’t look away from, you just can’t stop reading! So why four stars instead of five? If I’m being honest (and I try to be), it’s because the first half of the book moves at a slower pace then the second half. It took me almost a week to read the first half, but only one night to read the second. Then there was the drama. While I enjoyed it because Siobhan Davis is the master, I felt it was a bit much. By the time I got to the end, my head was spinning from all the surprise twists. Now that’s just my personal opinion, others may not feel that way. If you enjoy YA bordering on New Adult contemporary with shocking drama, I highly recommend you read this series.
In this story alot takes place. It picks up after the cliffhanger of the first book. Which I love. This story just blew me away like always. I love when stories do that to you. You go into a book not knowing anything and then its like your there living in the story. Its amazing. Theres alot of love in this story, hate, turmoil. All the characters are very much involved in this book. Its mainly about Kyler since it is called Losing Kyler. but the other brothers have a significant role in this as well. Kyler is this crazy guy that drives you crazy. He is hot and cold and that is mainly because his ex is a nut job. Addison drives me crazy. I do not like her. Overall its an amazing story and it leaves you wanting more. You just do not want to stop reading. The storyline is just so great. I just do not ever want this story to end. I have a few quotes that I loved from the story.
The heart wants what the heart wants, and no amount of logic makes a blind difference.
“Goodbye sweet baby girl.”
“I can let it go. I want to let it go. She’s not going to take you from me anymore. No matter what, from now on, I’m yours. I’m here for you now and always.
Losing Kyler picks up right where Finding Kyler ends and it is just as fast paced as the first book. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the sequel and know what happens next.
The story is from Faye's perspective, so we get a glimpse of everything that she is going through and feeling. How she can be in love with her cousin and why it is so hard for her to walk away from him.
Kyler is the books namesake and he is an arrogant ass at times, and a sweetheart all wrapped into one. The perfect combo of bad boy sexy.
Brad is Kyler's best friend and Faye's fake boyfriend. He wasn't portrayed as a good guy in book 1 but in Losing Kyler you get to see a whole new side of Brad. He is a total sweetheart and I found myself rooting for him at times. Wishing Faye would just come to her senses and get with Brad.
But then the book would have been called Finding Brad.....and that doesn't have the same ring to it.
Through all the issues they have Kyler and Faye finally seem to have everything they could hope for. Then Kyler's mom divulges another gut wrenching secret that she has been keeping and it seems that their future is lost yet again.
Now I am Anxiously awaiting book 3!
