This is a violent, bloody sci-fi adventure that takes place in a medieval 🌎world, rife with spies and deceitful goings on. Everybody is only in it for the 💰money. The norm seems to be kill🔪 or be killed💀.
The main character is a spy who uses a long net maker's needle, daggers, knives🔪, and swords to kill the seemingly endless procession of assasins sent to kill him.
The other main character is Kanika💃🔪, a tough young woman, who is the first officer if The sailing ⛵vessel, The Resolute. The Captain is her father. The ship⛵ and crew trade and haul cargo along the coasts of the mostly water world🌍
The book is a total immersion for The reader into the author's wonderfully descriptive world building adventure! It's written in dual points of view, which I applaud! The intense and powerfully imaged book is a novella, but seems longer. The book does end in a cliffhanger..........more violence in The next book!

I also got the book with KU.
I did receive this book as a free digital download in exchange for leaving this honest review.
Perhaps if I had read the other books or knew how "The spy" fit into the overall story it would have been more entertaining. It left more questions unanswered than is usual. The writing style is fine most of the time, the characters leap from the page. The content was lacking.
As always I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
With that being said I have to say I am very disappointed that this was only a prequel to this author's book "Fractured Bonds". This left me wanting more ... much more!
"The Loss of the Resolute" is beautifully written and the author has the ability to not only draw you in from the very first page, but I could imagine the scenery, the background, the sights & sounds and the characters based upon his descriptions.
I felt as though a movie was playing in my mind as I was reading the book. It was all so vivid and clear.
I loved reading this book and look forward to reading more from Gred Alldredge!
This book is something between a short story and a novella. I read it in about an hour. I wouldn't characterize it as dark fantasy. I wouldn't place it as fantasy at all unless something drastic changes in the subsequent books. To me, this was a pirate's tale. I was drawn in by the Spy and Kanika. I want to know more about each of them. This alone would prompt me to read more. The writing was well done. enough description to give the reader the tone and texture but not so much that the reader is itching to skip it over and find dialogue. If you're looking for a quick, easy, enjoyable read. I highly recommend this one.
