As soon as I finished book one (Orientation) I had to immediately jump into book two. This is one of those books that you do not want to put down. The story and the suspense keeps building and building, compelling me on, page after page.
I love how the drama in the story, created by the tension, jealousy, and hostility between the characters, but also budding friendships, compassion, and tenderness kept me so engaged.
Overall the story continues on from book one, which introduced us to the Lost Boys, who all found themselves, for various reasons, in an academy to "cure" their homosexuality. Book two dives deeper into each of their back stories, which are all each engaging on their own, while continuing the overall story and themes of friendship, love, family, betrayal and a bit of religion in the mix.
The characters are so diverse. I could definitely feel myself rooting for some, feeling a bit heartbroken for others, and down right wanted to give some of them a good shaking...and at times all three at once.
There is so much charm, humor, playfulness, and intrigue through out the book. It kept me entertained and sometimes laughing to myself throughout. Highly recommend!
All they knew was that college life is their time for fun but now they are being forced to convert from their homosexuality. Jimmy's secret is still hidden far from everyone and that's exactly how he wants to keep it. Jake is possibly threatening his time at the Academy. Kyle and Alex are fighting with each other as usual but they are learning that being apart is not a better choice. Mason's family is not being very supportive so now he has to make serious decision.
This is the second installment in the Lost Boys Academy series. I found the second book more involved as the first installment set up the characters but in this one we learn more about their stories and their backgrounds. Aaron really makes you think as the topic of guys in college being forced to rehabilitate from their sexuality. We know these establishments exist but now to read a story with characters facing these issues was an eye-opener to this entire conversion therapy. I give so much credit to the author for taking a chance on a very hot topic in this series and he's done it so brilliantly.
I just loved how completely different these boys are but at the same time their at the college for the exact same outcome. I like how they are at the school for completely different reasons and how widespread the issues are. The author takes you on an intense ride of self discovery, awareness and living one's own truth. I love these boys and felt their pain and they stayed with me long after I finished this novel and that speaks volumes of the great writing of this author. I highly recommend this novel so much as it will make you think while giving you a brilliant and beautifully written story.....Lost Boys Academy 2!!!!

While the first installment to the series mostly served as an introduction of sorts, this second addition dives deeper into the lives of the characters and begins to elaborate on their individual stories. I still really love the diversity that could be found in all the characters. Each of the boys depicted brings so much to the story. They are all at the academy for difference reasons, are all going through different things, and are all simply trying to figure themselves out. The academy might not be the most ideal place for these guys to deal with issues such as self-identity, relationships, bigotry, etc.; however, the friendships and profound bonds that are developing are helping ease the way.
There is a lot going on and I highly recommend reading the series in sequential order. As the overall story arc progresses be prepared for more drama, twists and turns and heartfelt emotion.
All in all, Lost Boys Academy 2: Distraction was a great second installment to this fascinating series. Kudos to this author for coming up with a concept that is not only interesting but also writing it in such a way that the reader can’t help but become immersed in all that is going on. The writing is fantastic, the concept is original and this novella leaves you wanting more.
