This is an excellent book. The adventure is interesting, engaging and thrilling. The best part of the novel is that it ends satisfactorily. I doubt the movie will be up to the level of enjoyment of the novel, however, I will go see. Loved the research that went into this novel.

Really enjoyed the two stories that this book told; the past converging with the present. I learned quite a bit about how race shaped early exploration and how our knowledge of the complexities of native cultures is expanding today. I look forward to watching the film.

Although I love history and non fiction, even detail (ie The Great Bridge), this book took me down too many fact finding journeys to justify the gratifying ending. I never want to give spoilers and keep someone from reading a book themselves so I will simply say it was an interesting read, with personally uncomfortable character reveals, and an abrupt ending. I struggled, admittedly for personal reasons, therefore three stars.

Good read! I am tempted to watch the movie except that it doesn't appear to follow the stories of the other expeditions or Grann's either. Those were part of the fascinating story and mystery. A bit of an abrupt ending but still one of the best books I've read in a while.

I read this book in a few days. The authors writing style made it easy, and the way he jumps back and forth between his story and Fawcett's keeps things fresh.

As I got closer to the end I started to wonder when the "reveal" would happen, as the majority of the book had passed and Fsecetts final journey had barely been touched on.

The ending is hardly conclusive, and almost felt thrown together. I didn't expect the author to solve the mystery without a doubt, but I would have liked more time spent on the last journey of Fawcett and on the author's attempts to find out what happened.

If you go into this book knowing that 300 of the 350 or so pages cover Fawcetts life prior to his last trip, and that you'll learn no more about him or Z than a quick Wikipedia read, you'll enjoy the book and the story and not be disappointed. Just don't expect to be blown away either.

Amazing real tale and based on historic figures and their adventures. Ending is super surprising so hang on for the end BUT Do NO jump there as you have to read all that precedes to appreciate this incredible tale of these explorers wanting to conquer an unconquerable realm.

Fascinating and almost unbelieveable tragedy /adventure tale which is captivating. The writing style matches the pace of the story and eases the reader through what might otherwise be dry memoirs and diaries. I felt absolute compassion for the explorers.

The Lost City of Z is a "can't put down" telling of the great British explorer, Percy Harrison Fawcett and his explorations in the Amazon Rain Forest which ended with his disappearance sometime during his 1925 search for "the lost city of Z" which was his name for what some felt to be what is more commonly called "El Dorado." Throughout the years after Fawcett and his party disappeared, scores of people have searched for him and for the city of Z.
More than just an excellent adventure story, the book also tells of Fawcett's efforts to rise in the ranks of British explorers and also a bit of the history of The Royal Geographical Society.
Still more engrossing is the information that the author, David Grann has unearthed about Native American civilizations, going back to centuries before the Incan and the Mayan eras.
Grann, a staff writer for the New Yorker became fascinated with the mystery of Fawcett's disappearance and, like many others before him, chose to go to South America in search of answers to what happened to Fawcett and his party. The result of his search is this amazing book that I count as one of the greatest exploration stories that I have ever read.

The movie release inspired me to read this and I can say without a doubt, this surpasses the movie in intrigue, research, and very compelling writing. Highly recommend this . It's addictive and will transport you back almost a century in time.
