This movie is highly underrated. I stumbled across it in a dvd store and had never heard of this movie or read the book by Oliver Jeffers but the cover was cute and the animation looked good so I purchased it. I'm so happy I did! Very touching story about a boy who finds a penguin on his doorstep narrated by Jim Broadbent. Wonderful 3 dimensional animation and sweet story that makes you feel warm and fuzzy at the end. Apparently this was a TV short from 2008 and has aired on some children's shows like NickJr. but I've never seen it. My children love it and it kept their attention throughout. Highly recommended!

Although I’m no parent (unless you’re counting cats!), I can certainly appreciate the difficult parents have in raising a child. I don’t subscribe to that whole “it takes a village” nonsense, but I do think communities do have something to offer by way of ‘assisting’ any parent in instilling good behaviors and respectable beliefs. In fact, I think having someone to rely on in a community – no matter its size – is increasingly important: who wouldn’t want to have a neighbor willing to give you a cup of sugar if you needed one? Those sentiments are very near and dear to the core of LOST AND FOUND, a wonderful short feature (about 25 minutes) exploring a boy, a penguin, and the ocean that divides yet joins their respective shores.

(NOTE: The following review will contain minor spoilers necessary solely for the discussion of plot and/or characters. If you’re the type of reader who prefers a review entirely spoiler-free, then I’d encourage you to skip down to the last three paragraphs for my final assessment. If, however, you’re accepting of a few modest hints at ‘things to come,’ then read on …)

One day – out of the blue – a penguin comes knocking at a young boy’s door. As is customary, the boy opens it, and the bird walks in, helping himself to the place and its surroundings. Believing the small thing is lost, the boy embarks on a journey to see it returned to its home … even at the risk to himself and the loss of a possible new friend.

LOST AND FOUND clocks in at under 30 minutes, and, at that length, I’d imagine it’s exactly the kind of feature that children – especially very young ones – would find outstanding.

Have been a fan of Oliver Jeffer's books featuring the boy and the penguin for several years, and have been eagerly awaiting the chance to finally see the short. Well worth the wait. Well animated and stays true to the book, while fluffing it out to fill the minutes. Simple story with a great message about friendships. Young kids might be afraid of the ocean storm scene the first time through.

I bought this book and movie. My 28 month old granddaughter loves them both. She loves to talk about what's in the movie and asks why those things aren't in the book. She loves the story both ways! This is a real treat for both of us!

AMAZING. Ridiculously good animation, wonderful characters, and the narration is perfect. How refreshing to have a movie rely completely on a narrator to tell the story for the characters, and yet you still find yourself completely absorbed and falling in love with the boy and the penguin. The only movie I am happy to watch over and over with my 3 year old (who adores it as much as me!). Read the book as well - Oliver Jeffers is one of my favorite child authors.

If you want an innocent movie for a young child, this is about as good as it gets. There is just a bit of drama/tension when they get into a big storm. Later a gigantic octopus appears and looks menacing for a moment, but is actually very kind.

We don't watch much tv, and I'm very fussy about content for my little guy. This movie joins a very small collection of media (along with Mister Rogers, Little Bear and the Snowman) that are truly appropriate for a young child - slow paced, simple content, little or no drama/tension, not very stimulating visually or otherwise.
