Odesss was weak. It's hard to explain with out giving too much away, but I kept wanting her to put her big boy pants on and take back her life. Once she did I was in awe of how amazing she was.
Quill is definitely a strange one. I liked him, but it took me a while to get into the mind set. He was really rough around the edges but he had this natural protective instinct that was sweet even though it was a little weird.
I wasn't really sure how this story was going to go, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much the plot drew me in. It's not my typical read, but I enjoyed it. The whole concept of this "highway" was very interesting.
This isn't a fuffy fall in love romance. So if that's what your looking for, keep looking. This book has gore, it's twisted, but still has a romance story deep down.. 3.5/4 stars #2OCCJD
Lots of dark humor that breaks up this strange book. I love dark humor so I was a happy girl.
Told in alternating chapters of h/H pov. Some sex. Violence but in a creepy humorous way at least it was for me (lol).
I loved the the H/h. h had inner strength & no snark (yay). H was a badazz & learned to trust & love. Their HEA definitely had some bumps but in a strange way. No angst.
4.25 b/c the writing a few times felt jerky due to the short chapters. KU book that I decided to buy. One of BH best books.
Quill, on the other hand, is very conflicted. Odessa is opening him up to feelings and emotions, and he has been taught his entire life that they are a weakness. On several occasions he debates on whether it would be easier to just kill her then to try to live with her or watch her go mad as others have done. As the book moves on, the horrors that Quill and Odessa face on a day-to-day basis become the backdrop for the story, as the couple arrive at their HEA. However, be warned, the HEA is still pretty tenuous in this terrifying world.
The book was well-written and edited. I bought it because I loved Junkyard Dog and Black Sheep (5 star reads) by this author. However, this book was not for me. I never stopped being freaked by the entire concept, and the book was absolutely like standing and watching two trains heading straight for each other. I was horrified but strangely fascinated by the story and read this dark read to the very end; however, it was not a world I would want to visit again. If you are looking for a totally different book, this is it.
