like the reviewer above. i never had heard of Marden Hill but stumbled upon them through YOUTUBE. This is one heckava group.I could find little information about them, let alone reviews but needless to say, this is one of the most impressive c.d.s of music I have heard in this century. This group is all over the place, hard to nail down what the core sound is,however, that said ,the songs are of such hi caliber that i all works.
Goes from cool jazz harmonizing vocal arrangements,to sort of Beatleish/pop song in "summertime" which totally infectuous..a spacey dance hall tune, sort of Kinkish-60's vein.total 60's vocals.
then a spanish guitar piece with cool harmony vocals that are almost Ohio Express at times and the go Free Design/Barbara MOore, then blast into Beach Boys."Bardot"is epic.
"Arial" has cool guitar in center, sort of Gypsy Kingish with swelling strings.Very Euro
"sugar Plums" cool hip trip music.,sounds a bit like "Bent" ,groups like that.
oh constance, opens up with guitar that sounds like early joni mitchell and then goes scott walker and divine comedy. very smooth and melodic and exquisite production.
"Bachus is back" rocking.almost be bop 50's rock and roll. got a huge groove thing going on.
"curtain" -piano driven.sounds like "traffic " a bit at first and then blasts in with these great male/femal vocals that are melters..Excellent jazzy pop tune.free design fans would go nuts on this one/
"satellite' is a instrumental,sort of "telestar" in concept i think.duane eddy/link wray/dickie dale guitars..very very cool.
"execution" is toybox sounding.almost angelo Badalamenti sounding at with a dash of MOrricone in there with the cool italiano male harmony vocals.very cool tune..

I had never heard of Marden Hill, but I heard their song "Bardot" on a Boy George chill out CD. I loved that song so much, that I bought more of their CD's. Wonderful relaxing music. Great to listen to in the car while driving, or in my office, or on a lazy Sunday afternoon in my home. I would definitely recommend this CD.
