If you thought Petula Clark died with the '60s, think again! With this new album, the 80-year-old "Downtown" hitmaker has relaunched herself into pop perfection. I know it's only April, but I'm already geared up to call this album one of the finest of the year.

Every track is flawless - even the covers! When I saw Petula had recorded Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" I was skeptical, but she totally nailed it. The new "Downtown" rendition is also a highlight, as are throwbacks like John Lennon's "Imagine" and Elvis' "Love Me Tender"

But the real highlights are, of course, the brand new tracks. "Cut Copy Me" is absolutely gorgeous. It's a mix of elegance, beauty, sexiness, and is shockingly catchy. It's worth buying the CD for that one alone, but the title song "Lost In You" is another gem that you'll want to listen to over and over.

"Next to You," "Never Enough" and "Every Word You Say" are likewise flawless. The productions are so modern and yet so songbook that they're impossible not to love.

The only toss-out number goes to "He Loves and She Loves" which was a low point, in my opinion. But I can handle 1 dud when there are 11 killer songs.

OVERALL: Petula delivers the biggest shocker in music history! I'm too young to remember her glory years, but her classics have lived on and touched my life as they have so many others. Whether you're a long-time fan or simply want an album that is both pop and beautiful, you MUST GET "Lost In You." Honestly, it may be the best album of Petula Clark's career.

Petula clark turned 80 his past November but this Cd is not a collection for shady pines. Petula has picked a wide variety of songs opening with the indie edgy "Cut Copy Me" to a new version of "Downtown" that is far from just a rehash update. Petula is also a great writer and you find a copy self penned gems included with this set as well. Granted, I am a fan from way back and have seen this woman in recent years still deliver a fresh current show that made me first affair with Music ("Downtown") would last a life time!

As an original fan ( at least from "Downtown forward"), you cannot question her historic and legendary status as one of the greats. But to be honest, her output from the last 35 years have left me wondering where that great singer was I grew up listening to and enjoyed so much coming out of my Mothers Zenith stereo console. Poor song choices.....bland or overblown production....and a singing style that I can only describe as crooning. That is NOT the case on this new cd of new and revamped material. Huge credit goes to her producer and arranger for bringing Pet into the modern age with clean and contemporary production. Gone is the echo that made her voice so huge in the 60's....This "close to the mic" style is very similiar to what Rick Rubin did with Johnny Cash...concentrating on that great voice and having an arrangement that is simple, yet complimenting....it is sonically transparent with great clarity, with even her breathing being noticeable a couple of times.
I was waiting to really cringe when I saw that she does a new take on her classic "Downtown," but it is actually good! ..and her take on Lennon's "Imagine" is unique but still true to the original version of the song. Pet gets co-writing credit on many of the songs, and that doesn't suprise me as she always contributed to many of her albums, even when she used an alias in the credits.
All in all....I was REALLY surprised at how good this CD is, considering I have grown used to a great deal of poor choices over the years. If she never makes another album (and I certainly hope she does) she can know that she really put icing on her career cake with this offering.

An excellent surprise!!! A more sensuous and mature sound from Pet.
Pet fans should definitely add this to their collection. This one is my favorite
next to Pet in Memphis.

for Petula Clark to release an album so extraordinary at this stage in her career is nothing short of breathtaking. Her performance is what one would expect form an artist at the prime of her talent. Songs range from the vibrant "Crazy" (CeLo version, not Seal) to the uptempo country rocker "Never Enough." And from a tip of the hat to Marianne Faithfull in the gorgeous melancholy of "Next to You" to the Angelo Baldamanti-inspired "Every Word You Say." Each of these songs is a gem, beautifully produced, fresh and thoroughly current. Petula's passion, commitment and artistry are evident throughout this collection, by far the best new album from her in years. Thanks you Petula. You are simply amazing.

The purity and natural beauty of Petula Clark's voice has always mesmerized me. This new album is a showcase of her nuanced phrasing and heartfelt vocal delivery. No histrionics here, just pure music and singing. With the exception of "He Loves She Loves", every song is a winner. Most importantly, the album as a whole creates a mood that passes much too quickly. The recording quality and arrangements are top notch. Simply a wonderful album.

Petula Clark's new CD is a sweet effort from this classic singer. One track has me reaching for the repeat button. Petula takes Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" and stirs it into an addictive midtempo track. It's different from Barkley, but it certainly caught my ear. The rest of the CD does not stand up and grab you by the collar, but it's a decent set. "Lost In You" has a lovely stately feel, "You're here & I am whole." "Never Enough" is a strong pop nugget, "There's one thing I am sure of, I'll never see enough of you." "Next to You" has a haunting melody with Pet's voice in the echo chamber. "Every Word You Say" has a haunting melody with Beth Porter's cello deepening the sound. I thoroughly enjoy Petula's Elvis Presley cover of "Love Me Tender" & her reverent take on John Lennon's "Imagine." Perhaps a few more songs with a stronger beat might have better showcased the ballads. But, call me Crazy, I like it. Enjoy!
