Editorial Reviews

"Louder" is the debut solo album from Leah Michele, who is best known for the character Rachel Berry on GLEE, for which she has earned two Golden Globe nominations and an Emmy nomination. Of the 43 million singles sold from GLEE, over 10 million of those are Lea Michele songs. Lea is featured as lead singer in over half of the of the Top 20 selling GLEE songs. Now a veteran of Broadway and Television, this album takes Lea fully into the world of popular music. Most of the songs on "Louder" are written by songwriter Sia Furler, recently celebrated on the cover of Billboard in November, 2013.

Ms. Lea Michele is the "Celine Dion" of the current generation. Her vocal texture and expressive multi-dimensionality is evidenced in the track, "Thousand Needles." I hope Ms. Michele goes far. She respects other fellow singers and appears humble and someone you want to see succeed in the competitive industry that is entertainment. Since seeing her as "Rachael Berry" in the FOX's hit TV show--"GLEE," I was hoping for a solo album from her. Not to speculate; however I think all the cast members had some contract forbidding them from pursuing solo music projects.

The music on the album are well worth it. It sounds "dance-y" and you know what? It is the current "sound," just like the harpsichord was the "sound" of the Baroque era. In addition to the title track, "Louder," my other favorites are "Thousand Needles," "Empty Handed," and "If You Say So." Ms. Michele had been open during interviews regarding the special and personal significant of "If You Say So," as a dedication towards Mr. Cory Monteith.

One of the best CDs I bought in the starting 2014. She is a rising vocal star and although her physical stature is "small," this "little lady" has a HUGE voice. Don't believe me? Listen to her belting out on "Thousand Needles." You'll wonder where she summon her lung power and amazing breathing techniques!

What a wonderful voice this young woman has. Great choice of songs. I thoroughly enjoyed this breakout album and I'm in my 60's.

This is a special voice. The way her voice soars on some of these songs is breathtaking. I've been a fan since watching her on the Tony Awards in 2007 singing from Spring Awakening and have loved everything she has put out and am never disappointed. There is no need to FF through any song. They are all amazing in their own way. In addition to her voice, Lea is a wonderful storyteller and you can hear a different story in each of these songs. Bravo.

This is an album you put on and don't need to skip over any of the tracks. Is she Talented? For sure. Beautiful voice - check!. Can she really sing? You Bet! This is an intelligent pop album. Each song worth the time spend listening to. Emotional song, like "If you say so" - one of the most descriptive emotional songs out there. Hauntingly beautiful. The song - Empty Handed -, probably one of the best written songs on the album. An album for a rainy day. An album for itchy feet on a sunny day. Each song will make you feel the emotion. LOADER - is my anthem for the rest of the year. One of the most complete and best albums in my collection. Lea Michele – you are really talented.

I've been anxious to hear this album since I heard she was making one. She is the best vocalist on Glee hands down. Louder had the potential to be explosive but instead the majority of the songs just feel so mediocre and phoned in. I hate to say that because I'm real fan of Lea' s talent but only a few songs stand out to me. I love "Cue the rain" and "if you say so". I could listen to those all day long but I'm bummed the rest of the songs don't impress. I hope if Lea makes a second album in the future she goes into much more personal territory with her song choices. Taylor Swift will never have Lea' s vocal talent but her songs are so personal that they strike a chord every time. That is what Lea needs to dominate in the music industry. Louder with the exception of "if you say so" is missing anything with real heart.

I don't watch Glee but I have run across clips of Glee and enjoy Lea Michele's voice. I enjoyed her debut album very much but, as discussed below, tLea could have done better. The album has too many run of the mill Pop tracks worthy of Katy Perry, which is fine for Katy Perry but someone as talented as Lea Michele can do better. However, on balance the songs ARE good. In fact, there are a few songs that are very good. Lea's voice is lovely and the songs are not vulgar (as a Mom, this is a big plus - the whole family enjoys this album).

- Cannonball: This track is a catchy pop song. It's not musically outstanding by any means, but it is good. 4 stars because it is enjoyable.
- On My Way: This track is a Katy Perry caliber pop song (her "hearts too drunk to drive". The song is not musically outstanding, but enjoyable. 3.5 stars
- Burn with You: This song has some more "mature" themes about hellfire, but overall, it's pretty good. 3.5 stars
- Battlefield: This is one of the better songs on the album in my opinion. It's a ballad and I think Lea's voice is best suited for ballads. 4.5 stars
- You're Mine: This is also one of the better songs. It's up beat but works well with Lea's voice. There are times where she sounds a bit like Celine Dion. 4 stars.
- Thousand Needles: This song showcases Lea's voice nicely. I think it is really good and is one of the darker songs on the album. One of the best songs in the album. 4.5 stars.
- Louder: This is an upbeat, Katy Perry type song. It's good, not outstanding. However, it is my 9 year old's favorite track on the album. 3.5 stars.
- Cue the Rain: This is another love song, but the lyrics are a bit better than some of the other songs on the album. 4 stars.
