What I was expecting to happen was for a handsome stranger to come in at the end of the day and sweep Louis off his feet. What actually DID happen was similar, but better. The handsome customer is actually a regular, and what's been going on between them for weeks is very sweet and endearing. The only issue I had with the story was in the transition from this revelation to Louis realizing what an idiot he's been and trying to make amends -- it was a bit too fast, considering the leisurely pace of the first half of the story.
But the resolution was very nice, and the story is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
This isn't all hearts and flowers - although there are flowers aplenty - this is a glimpse at one very sad man. The last few years have been tough on Louis and he doesn't look like he's making any progress to changing his life. He's cynical and unhappy and overlooks what's right in front of him.
Thank goodness his eyes are finally opened because what's a story about Valentine's Day without a happy ending!
You will understand why Louis hates Valentines Day, and when he finally get the idea of flowers and their language, he starts listening to the it, and understand that his sweet customer Arnie, maybe have more to say than what he is saying...
Really sweet and Arnie is the cutest thing;)
