She is a remarkable young lady. She would do anything to avoid a forced marriage. Her mother wants to save her. She has to escape, even if it would be the last time they met…
Miss Louisa Fenwick is the daughter of a merchant and seamstress. Four years ago her father filed for bankruptcy after several poor business decisions. Things took a turn for the worse when her father began drinking heavily which led to his untimely death. Louisa and her mother are taken in by her father’s younger brother Edmund. Louisa has grown into a beautiful young woman and is of marriageable age. Unbeknown to Louisa, Edmund plans to marry her off to his business partner—a repugnant gentleman twice her age. After finding out about Edmund’s plan, Louisa’s mother arranges for her to escape. With the help of her mother’s friend, Louisa is employed as a governess for the son of the Duke of Barnshire.
Alastair Barnes, the Duke of Barnshire, has vowed never to remarry. His marriage to Cordelia was out of obligation to his late brother. Sadly, Cordelia passed away eight years ago after giving birth to their son Carter. Alastair has become a recluse and has a passion for breaking in horses. But everything changes when he meets Louisa and he feels a strong connection with his son’s new governess.
Will a sudden tragedy bring Alastair and Louisa closer or will it tear them apart?

Review
"Right from the beginning as a reader I felt for Louisa. Alastair on the other hand had a mother who is pushing him to marry. Carter was charming and I could just see him when he met his father at the door missing shoe and jam too. It was so easy to get lost in this story it is very well-written with characters of depth. I enjoyed the book and I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it."

About the author

Dorothy is a Regency Historical novelist inspired by her mother’s favorite author, Georgette Heyer. Reading romance novels from a very young age was the beginning to capture her imagination into Romance books narrating the Regency era. She is a romantic soul and loves the way people express their love to others.
Her sister always stood by her in her writing career until she met her husband, who gave her four wonderful daughters and they now live in Texas. A dear dog and cat are not to be missed in the family.
Dorothy spends her free time listening to music, reading books, and baking delicious sweets. She likes to travel to see new places and learn more about historical facts of other countries. She also loves foreign languages and now speaks more than four!

This book has an epilogue plus the annoying extended epilogue that is apparently available for free. My link didnt work and I was not able to get it.
I found the story a bit annoying anyway. The Duke is mostly insipid! Never stands up to his over-controlling mother. I kept hoping he would grow a backbone but even when he made a bold choice it was completely understated. The sister is a rude, spoilt brat who basically gets away with behaving like that with just a little pat on the head. In fact, there is no accountability for anyone's poor behaviour. We dont know how long Louisa was unconscious for, but it's highly unlikely that she would wake up and get out of bed and dressed on her own to go walk in the garden. And how they fell in love with so little interaction between them is a mystery to me. Carter turned out to be a sweet boy and the governess isn't bad. This may be a clean, standalone read but it was too annoying to be truly enjoyable.
