I have an old 6' Keller aluminum ladder. I guess I was lucky when I bought it in 1996. It's a bit heavy, due to the design that allows it to function as both a 6' step ladder and 10' extension ladder. But it's ROCK SOLID. No flex at all. No wiggle. This 8' Louisville ladder can't even set the 4 feet down evenly on a completely flat and level surface without fiddling. There is that much flex and give in the framing. It's sturdy enough...and certainly better than most you'd find in a Big Box store...but nothing compared with older (heavy) wooden or aluminum ladders. But to be fair, such older ladders would cost 2x (or more) what I paid for this Louisville ladder. Still, the silly design compromises weaken this ladder significantly.
And so it's definitely not as sturdy as described. But I plan to make some modification to fix it. First will be replacing that POS flimsy top piece with something much stronger (that won't twist).. Second will be to replace those soft (poorly locking) steel braces (that hold the ladder open) with a pair of full-length pieces of much stronger steel that will use a hinged approach where the bars will extend the full length and lock into the opposite side with a u-shaped opening onto a tight bolt. The way they used to do it in the OLD DAYS.
I have messy pin oaks around my patio and needed to keep the mess they make in
spring out of gutters and off the roof. This ladder woks perfectly, I am 87 years young and ladder is lite
This ladder is everything I wanted in a ladder. Sturdy, yet lite
enough for me to carry it to the gutters. I am 87 years young
and I find this ladder easy to open and close. I also keep outside
under the eaves. and thus far it has fair well thru rain and hail.
I have never been comfortable on a high ladder but have no problem
with this one. I mainly use it to clean gutters during the spring which is
a bi-weekly job when the pen oaks drop the lacy mess I rate it 5 star
Be sure to think about where you are going to store this thing when not in use! You can't just stand it up against a wall in the garage, most ceilings in garages are between 8-10ft. So I installed some hooks on my garage wall and I mount it horizontally.
Also beware, this latter opens up about 6-7 feet wide so you will need some space to "open it up" wherever you will be working. In my bedroom, when I went to install the fan, I had to move my whole bed out of the way to get the ladder positioned correctly. Just FYI.
