Great for catchers to work on blocking, receiving etc..
Want consistent ground balls? Check,
Fly balls? No idea, haven't tried that yet
Lots of reps for hitting with consistent location? Absolutely.
--I think its especially great for 10U and under because they can see traditional ball flight coming in as opposed to dads who lob balls in more like a slow pitch softball player developing massive uppercuts. Not to mention the release point just being way higher than what you see at this age.
It works great in the batting cage on a flat surface (minimal movement and when it moves a tiny bit I can set it back quickly and easily).
However on a gavel baseball field that’s not perfectly level like the cage it’s a bit more cumbersome to use. It also shifts A LOT more on gravel/sand (I don’t use the stakes).
It also doesn’t pitch the ball at the same spot all the time, which is great…I want the ball mostly moving in the strike zone with some balls to teach the kids to load while judging if it’s a ball or strike. If I set it for the inside corner 80-90% of all the balls will go to the inside corner…the most misses without the machine slightly shifting are cause by the machine under throwing or overthrowing the ball; which again is good practice for the batter’s vision.
