Perform at the top of your game every game. The new 2014 Louisville Slugger PGS514-STY Series 5 Youth 3-Piece Catcher's Set comes with a helmet, chest protector and shin guards. New lighter, Precision pad designed chest protector fits better than ever before and doesn't ride up when crouching. High-density foam padding deadens the ball on contact and a new over the shoulder harness enhances a form fit. More pad breaks allow the pads to better conform to the body. Perforated mesh lining with metallic mesh cover reduces weight and creates better airflow. Anatomically inspired, double-knee design allows for a better fitting shin guard and a less restricted range-of-motion. Intermediate Sizes: Chest protector; 12". Shin guards; 13". Helmet; one size (fits 6 3/8 - 7).

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
Only cons would be it doesn't come with a bag for the gear or a dangling throat guard (required by most Little Leagues now).
His head measures 21 1/2" (size 7 helmet)
He weighs 76lbs and stands 4' 6" tall.
At best he's average sized.
We selected this set based on the age recommendation 9-12yo and because the measurements also looked good.
We were thrown by the reviews because so many of them are still 4-5 stars but now that we've received the gear and he's tried it on we find that the helmet is way too small, hurts his head around the temples and crown of the head. The chest protector is too large and can't be adjusted all the way in because the strap buckle won't fit through the strap keeper on the back. The shin guards fit perfectly.
Now that we've made these discoveries we went back to the listing and reviews looking for answers 'perhaps we got an odd ball'. In looking back many of the 4-star reviews state the EXACT SAME THING! "Helmet too tight, had to get a different one", "Chest plate too big", "Shin guards perfect". I must have read a couple dozen 4-star reviews stating exactly those sentiments. I'm sorry but that to me is not a 4-star product when it's description states one thing and so many have found the exact same discrepancies.
***ATTENTION GLASSES WEARERS***
Let me be very clear, if your player wears glasses. I don't care if they are 7-8 years old, this helmet WILL NOT work for them.
The design is great for protection, terrible for comfort, and impossible for glasses. The dense foam padding consists of a single piece that runs all the way down to the ears and lacks a channel or otherwise taper for glasses.
This catchers set is super nice and marginally priced (not the cheapest, not the most expensive) we wanted this to work (we needed this to work) but it just doesn't. If the sizing is going to be so inconsistent it would be awesome to be able to choose the size of each piece and build our own set.
open this! We picked out the orange set. After his camp, he was picked for a team, as catcher, and it was the perfect color for his team!
It fits great, easily adjusted for the perfect fit. The only thing additional we needed to purchase was the throat guard.
This is ok for some cheap equipment but I would never purchase again for a serious catcher.

It’s pretty sung. He can’t take it on and off without help. We had to cut out some of the padding to get it to fit.
