Why? Because LOVE IS LOVE, and she knows how to make you feel it so deep in your bones that it is difficult not to fall in love with both the book and its characters.
Love Always, Wild is an MM romance that deals with not only the stigma against gays, but also focuses on the ache of self-doubts, first love, forgiveness, healing, and the power of love.
There is no doubt Jax and Wilder were soulmates—their love was the kind of love that you just find once in a lifetime. And I don't know many gay couples, but I think their story was the perfect portrayal of a couple of the same sex, a couple in love that faces everyday fears and can relate to all the uncertainties all gay men go through.
The poignant writing, the inspiring characters, the swoony, yet intense chemistry between Jax and Wilder, and the heart-tugging storyline consumes you from beginning to end.
Love Always, Wild was a pleasure to read from the first page to the last, a second chance MM romance that will leave a mark on your heart, a story that everyone should read at least once.
Would I read another m/m romance? If A.M. Johnson writes it, then my answer is YAS! I will be not so patiently waiting for Anders's book, even tho you broke my heart when you mentioned it wasn't going to be with E.
From the very beginning of this book I was pulled in and knew that it was going to be an emotional ride. I was not wrong. These two pulled at all of the strings. I could feel Jax's heartbreak, pain and guilt. I will never understand his ghosting but I will also never completely understand his guilt so I get it. If that makes any sense. Wilder was a grumpy sour puss that I adored. His grump made me laugh. I loved how much he had grown, was comfortable in his own skin and was a beacon of hope and encouragement for Jordan. Their exchanges were funny and sweet. But yet at the same time he was emotionally stunted. You could feel his heartbreak from losing Jax all those years ago. You could feel that he was still in love with him and couldn't get over him. There was nothing easy and simple about Jax and Wilder which I think is my favorite thing and most painful thing about this book. Their struggles felt so real. It didn't feel like I was reading a work of fiction. Their struggles and heartache and love felt so real.
Wilder took the first leap of faith in forgiving Jax and giving him a second chance but Jax had the longer jump in changing and uprooting his whole life to be with the one he loved more than anything in the world. And man was it a beautiful ride. I loved every single thing about this book. This author has a way of writing real life, the good, the bad, the sad and the ugly and making it all beautiful. This book is a top read for me this year. I will sing it's praises from the highest mountain.
Familial love, friendship love, and romantic love are all heavy themes throughout the story. And second chances. At happiness and love. And standing up for yourself and what you believe in.
I loved the non romantic relationships just as much as Jax and Wilder's. Jax's loving and protecting nature with his brother. Wilder's sibling-like relationship with June. And even Jax's friendship with Ethan. Such a support system around them that pushed them toward their happily ever after.
Once again A.M. Johnson created a world where love is love but not without hard work and a passion which blazes between her main characters. Wilder is the creative nerd who knew from a very young age he loved deeply and his heart clung to the one who tore him apart. His walls crumble from the beginning of something beautiful, yet not meant to be, and he rebuilt his fortress, allowing no one to enter for years.
Jaxson loved the freedom Wilder brought to his life, but freedom only existed within four walls and held no truths in the world in the outside world. His life did not include openly loving a man like Wild. He sucked down his happiness and trapped himself behind false walls and social pretenses. Johnson developed these two dynamic characters with all the realities of broken dreams, disgusted narrow-minded fools, and friendships that build bridges for open hearts, minds, and love to fill the soul. No good romance comes without its closet of horrors and mistakes. Johnson doesn't miss a beat with any of these clever tools. Love Always, Wild is a must-read for 2020!

We have a wonderful second chances read, due to the dreadful events that occurred in Jax's life. Not sure why he didn't get in touch with Wilder though to at least explain his predicament...do we treat that as non-communication? I suppose so, but they were obviously made for one another, and deserved their HEA. Yes, there were some characters that were complete muppets, bigoted and backward in their views, but I didn't concentrate on them, I gave my full attention to Jax, Wild and Jason [Jax's brother, and the main reason Jax did what he did].
I understand that Anders will be getting a story of his own in due course, and I just LOVED little Gandalf, Rosie and the email/text convos between Wild and Jax...June, Gwen and Ethan weren't too shabby either.
