Who can resist the name "Lilac Cottage"? That alone just sounds peaceful, healing, and restful. If the name of the cottage wasn't enough, why the lilacs growing in abundance out back were enough for anyone to want to stay. For Mollie Wright, it is all those things and more that entice her toward Lilac Cottage. It is her first fully owned permanent home.
Until a clause in the paperwork from the previous day puts a potential kink in the ownership column.
She has come so far from where she used to be that she will do whatever she can to keep her home. One of her neighbors is willing to help her. But the nephew, Sean, of the woman who sold her the property has other plans in mind. He will also have to fight his aunt, Genevieve, in the process.
A funeral, several moves to different homes, a great aunt that has her mind made up, a nephew fighting a battle only he seems to want to win, a codicil and a will that cannot be read for 60 days, Sean's growing feelings toward Mollie, long lost family suddenly appearing, a never forgotten ex fiancé and more. There is a lot going on in the little town of Grady Cove in upstate NY.
It is a story of hope, of learning to look back at our past and learn and grow from it, of friendship, of values, and priorities, and most of all love in all its shapes and sizes.
I enjoyed this novel. It was a fun, sweet, smart and warm novel. It addressed real issues that can occur anywhere, but also the strength and love that comes from small towns.
The characters were wonderful. Smart as a tack Genevieve; still named "the shark" would be friend, neighbor and (retired) lawyer Emily; a lousy lawyer more after food and easy to handle law issues; family members not too great and would prefer to forget; other family members thought lost but not forgotten. At the root of it all is Alma. She is Genevieve's late twin. Unknowingly, she has held all the cards and answers...or most of them.
My only issue was the epilogue felt rushed. While it quickly explained some things, such as the current living status of all the members, it also left so much up in the air. The first question that came to mind was why would anyone let Mollie's swindling brother and mother stay at Lilac Cottage full of heirlooms? While some of the other things in the epilogue made sense, there was still much left up in the air. I suspect there may be a novel following this one that will explain some of the odds and ends. If not, there isn't a cliffhanger, just a rushed ending leading to more questions as versus closure.
I recommend this novel to all women from late teens on up. Hopefully it will draw you in, as it did me, and you will enjoy it just as much. Oh and a cup of tea or too can only add to the enjoyment.

This is a story of rebuilt trust and forgiveness. Constantly being let down with unreliability, Mollie Wright has a new beginning. A new home! A cottage filled with love from the dear sisters who previously lived there. Upon growing older, they decided to sell the little property. Mollie is thrilled they have selected her as the buyer.
Nephew Sean Grady is not so sure his dear great-aunts should leave ~ basically his memories being there and the fragrance of the lilacs everyone in the village enjoys their sharing of them on special occasions and just to say, "I'm thinking of you."
Unaware that it has been sold, he unlocks the front door. His first glimpse of Mollie cleaning the stove sets off an adventure he doesn't expect. Certain that he will never love again after being spurned, a division has set in that he feels cannot be rectified.
With both of their pasts clouding their present, Grady Cove exhibits loving neighbors who harbor their delicate feelings to bloom into explosions of understanding and forgiveness vivid to touch.
You will be allowed to view their outlooks, hopes, and dreams. Enjoy Love Among the Lilacs as truths become apparent when hearts are open to receive blessings of reconciliations.
