This book has both.
First of all, Mitchell begins with a believably vulnerable heroine who ends up in the hands of a wonderfully powerful shifter who is both incredible AND strong. He's a bear, obviously, so he's physically powerful of course, but he also has emotional convictions that play out through the whole book.
He guides her through his dangerous, difficult world, and won't let her go. Don's got a lot of wild west in him. He's an outlaw in his own clan simply by bringing Sam into his life, and he's also an outlaw because... he's a bear!
Aside from the romance, and the steamy bits (which are AWESOME) Mitchell's book is well written, has a strong plot that is, again, believable, and is fast paced. Perfect book for a quick sunday read!
Samantha stumbles upon the man of her dreams, only she had never dreamed he would turn out to be something more than human. Then, as our hero, Don, takes care with his darling Sam and sensual encounters inevitably follow.
Mix in a villain like Emmerick and a bear clan that's rubbed the wrong way when Don breaks all their rules for love of his destined mate and I am a happy reader!
I love paranormal romance. I love steamy encounters that are well written and don't feel like recycled fluff. I want a story to have depth and I want the author to respect the story, his characters and me, the reader, with a plot that is constructed with careful reflection and solid writerly experience.
*That* is what I found in this book and *that* is why I highly...very highly...recommend this book.
Broken hearted Samantha finds everything in grizzly shifter Don. A very hot hero, a little domination, and a lot of soothing excitement as their love for each other grows. Of course, no good were-romance is complete without a nasty villain. Emmerick fits the bill perfectly. He was sinister, strange, and pretty creepy.
I would've liked to know more about his motives based on the Clan's history. The drinking while pregnant thing was a little odd too, but it didn't bother me like it did some other readers. Mitchell shows us many times that bear shifters have strong immune systems and bodies that can brush off dangers humans can't.
Overall this was a good, steamy read for a cold winter night. Love to Bear keeps the pages turning with a bunch of wild action and some scorching love scenes. I just hope I won't have to wait so long next time between good werebear romances!
I've read a number of his books and each is crafted with interesting storylines and strong characters. "Love to Bear" is no exception in this regard.
Most shifter tales are simple yarns that revolve around predictable storylines and themes. That's not the case here. Mitchell stays true to his roots as a veteran wordsmith. He blends a complex tapestry of bear clan politics and unlikely romance into this entertaining page turner.
I read it straight through and immediately wished there was more to go! I am eager to see what else this author has to offer up to shifter lovers like myself in the future.
And I have to say it works. Mitchell brings the same gritty down-to-earth heat to the genre and we get a steamy romance (with a hint of a Western, or at least country, flavor) crossed with all the trappings of a shifter novel with an interesting storyline. Great stuff.
