It has a good idea or at least a familiar idea. Supreme bad ass vamp falls for young vampire hunter. There's the requisite love triangle and the girl fighting her feelings against said supreme bad ass vamp. I always have an issue with stories like this because I just don't buy that after 1600 years that the vamp would find the 20 year old heroine so interesting. He wouldn't.He'd be bored silly. At least they attempt to make her a little special but it just comes off as whiny.
I found the main character to be unrelatable. She spends more time wanting to do the vampire then being scared, and this is before she got to "know Him". Her mom was killed by a vampire, she was raised hunting vampires. But yet almost instantly she is fantasizing about this vampire. Also when she experiences a major personal loss late in the book, it's hardly touched on. For being an Empath, all she really seems is horny lol
As the story moved on, I got more interested. I just wish something, ANYTHING would have happened.
I don't like prolonged love triangles and I wish they would speed that up to a resolution. I found myself reading this book in a few hours and I'm going to purchase the 2nd one, so it had SOMETHING I liked, I just hope that book #2 is better.
I realize this review is all over the place and I guess that's how I feel about the book. I can list all these things I didn't like about it but yet at the end of the day I really want to read book 2. Mystifying :)
I accidentally bought this via Kindle yesterday. Clicked the wrong button. So, after a big sigh, I decided to start reading. I am very happy I did. I finished in one day, and plan on buying the remainder of the series.
*Spoilers from this point on!*
Valerie Dearborn is an empath, and does not know it. Her father Nate, and his young handsome partner Jack are vampire hunters. Valerie's mother (an empath) was drunk to death by a vampire when she was young. Jake's parents were killed by a vicious vampire named Marion. Marion "loves" children and kills their parents to take the children. She ultimately tires of them and drinks them to death. The beginning of the story sets the stage for Valerie's life.
In her late teens, Valerie is forced to go on a vampire hunt with her father and Jack. They leave her at the car, and lo and behold a confrontation occurs whereas King of the Vampires Lucas saves her from a vampire. Lucas knows of Valerie because the vampire who drank her mother returned to see Lucas in Prague, and was high as a kite on empath blood.
enough said...I hope
I plan on buying the remainder of the series via Kindle. I highly recommend you purchase the three book set (nearly a five dollar savings) via Kindle format and read. Can't go wrong with a heroine named Valerie! Thanks to the author for a great read.
Valerie is a takes-no-crap spitfire who doesn't know when to shut up, even when her life depends on it. She knows what she wants in life & she goes for it at all costs (though life still doesn't always go how she wants no matter what she does) and shes been in love with Jack for as long as she can remember.
Now Jack, he is a hott-mess. Hott & Italian (dangerous combination) Hell-bent on revenge with no thoughts of the consequences or his future. Loyal to a fault. His & Val's relationship is strained to say the least.
The focus of his revenge Marion is just all kinds of crazy. She is sadistic & cruel with a huge dollop of plain old nuts. Everything you fear in a villain.
Now lets talk about Lucas....... ahhh Lucas *swoon, pant & drool - insert goofy grin here* he is the baddest of all baddies, the King of all Vampires & he has his sights set on Val for reasons only he knows & wont share. The chemistry between these two is off the charts!! And it doesn't help her that he is Dangerously Gorgeous & Sexy as Hell!!
This book will wind you up, throw you around & than spit you out leaving you breathless & screaming in frustration at the end (can you say cliffhanger?!?) When I first read this I think I actually screamed out loud cause I had to wait to find out what happened. This time I'm off to jump right on Love is Fear =) xx
This is the first book I've read by C.H. When I first started reading it, I wasn't sure if I was going to love the book. But just keep reading because it gets better and better.
Reasons I love this book:
1. The main character is witty and sassy. If she doesn't say it out loud, she's at least thinking it.
2. Being able to laugh out loud when reading it.
3. The romance and chemistry between the characters.
4. I'm actually interested in the supernatural part of the story line too (too many times I've been so bored with the side story in a romance book, but I actually enjoyed this one and want to know what's going to happen).
I definitely recommend buying this book. $0.99 won't break the bank and you'll be glad you did.
