Hayden Perry moved to Landown two and a half weeks ago. He was excited to get the event planning job he'd applied for, but apart from bumping into a cute guy in the elevator, things don't pan out the way he'd hoped. His boss is an ass and his co-workers are idiots, but as much as he dislikes them, he can't afford to quit until he has another job lined up.

Corey Hope's school years sucked. With a crippling stutter, he was easy prey, and despite being grown up, his bullies still haunt his nightmares. After he left school, he gave up on trying to talk, and communicates solely through sign language and written text. It works great even though he wished he could say something when Hayden flirts with him in the elevator.

Hayden does his best to catch Corey in the elevator as often as he can, and he thinks they might have something, but it all comes crashing down when Corey sees him having lunch with his colleagues. Corey might be drawn to Hayden, but seeing him with his school bullies has old memories washing over him. He won't let them hurt him ever again, and he'd rather forget about Hayden than risk Hayden hurting him.

How will Hayden convince Corey he's nothing like his colleagues when Corey refuses to see him?

Lovely short about a two guys who keep meeting in their building's elevator!

Enjoyed this short, not the author's very best, but a sweet story nonetheless! There is a small amount of verbal gay bashing so if that is a trigger for you you might wanna pass on this one. The two MCs are believable and real, and the use of their initial issues of communication is handle with grace and humor.

This is what I would call a typical Holly Day story. It was well written, nice world building and complex character development. The story was fairly unique and I loved that one of the MC's has a disability. Corey has an extreme stutter and after suffering terrible bullying in his youth, has resorted to using sign language rather than speech. When Hayden runs into Corey in the elevator of their apartment building he is instantly smitten with the attractive man and makes it his mission to get to know him. I loved how there were secondary characters that were actually deaf and their positive portrayal. I can completely empathize with Corey's frustrations and struggles. I lost hearing in my right ear at age 14 and it was definitely difficult navigating a world where I missed things. The romance was really sweet and I was really rooting for the HEA. I thoroughly enjoyed this book - as I have with almost all the Holly Day books - and I can definitely recommend this as a fast but heartwarming read.

🙊Can Corey silence the attraction?

I enjoyed this MM romance, brief but complete. It had an interesting twist, with a shy, bullied Corey who holes up in his apartment most of the time being pursued non-stop by Hayden who's just moved back to town and quickly sours on his employer and the homophobic jerks he works with. Brief encounters in their apartment building elevator whet Hayden's appetite for more and he works diligently to create every opportunity. But the twist is that Hayden has to figure out how to connect with Corey, who does not speak and uses ASL and texts to communicate.

I liked the slow-build relationship which finally rewards with some heat, and found the ending, where the guys have some work and housing issues to work through, refreshing. Not every HEA has to end in everything resolved and coming up roses🌹!

It's always fun to read one of Holly Day's short stories. This one was not different. Corey and Hayden get to know each other gradually even though Corey is wary due to past experiences and it's such cute story to follow as they get to their HEA.

I’m in love! With the writing style, the characters and the feels.
This is an amazing short story, that doesn’t feel like a short. The author does a great job writing stories like this. No loose ends or issues that you feel like isn’t resolved.
