I really liked the side story about the long distance relationship with the spouse serving overseas. That was an excellent idea, and perhaps the best one from the story. (Keeping the politics out of it is always my preference, so that was delicately handled where others might get preachy.)
I guess it could have been a harder road for the characters to travel. The side character with the soldier spouse was the only one who didn't clearly have a happy ending, and everything else was wrapped up in happy thoughts really quickly by the end.
I think I'm saying that there could have been more conflict and more hard choices, even if there was temporary pain for the two main characters. The temporary pain could have been longer or stronger for my tastes, but I did enjoy the story even if I'm trying to be critical. Certainly worth the read.
I'm so glad I did! This book is a really sweet romance between two young women that is just a delight to read. It's not an especially steamy tale or erotica - it's a genuine romance that just happens to be between two women - and it's so well-written and real that I just fell in love with them both.
I'm not sure if I'll be reading any more lesbian romances, but if I had to have one introduction to the genre, I'm pleased it's this book. It was terrific and if you're looking for a real love story between women, you couldn't do any better.
