” Meet the DiDominzio family- fiery, loud, Italian. Francesca, Antonia, Gianna and Carmine were raised by their strict, old school Italian father. Each sibling has their own journey but how they find their happily ever after definitely isn’t easy”
In this four part novel, we do exactly what Lyssa describes in her introduction. We meet each family member, and get a little sneak peek into the busy lives of each sibling. And even though all four stories are intertwined superbly, each story in itself is beautifully written.
In part one “The King and the Pawn” you’ll meet the youngest daughter, Francesca, an up and coming fashion designer (much to her fathers dismay). This girl has serious balls when she confronts her father, stating that she’s going against his wishes and starting a fashion line of her very own. All she needs is the money, and she’s hoping she can get the inheritance that was left for her a little early to make a start.
Francesca comes up with the perfect plan – bring home a man that her father will not approve of with the hope they can strike up some bargain, and see her granted the money she desperately needs.
What she doesn’t plan on is falling madly in love with non-Italian ex army seargeant Guy Sillers.
In part two “Not in Love” the second to youngest daughter Antonia, finds herself alone and pregnant to the man she thought she would spend the rest of her live with. Unfortunately said man is also married and expecting a child with his wife. Her greatest fear is facing her whole family with the news that she conceived a baby out of wedlock. But what will happen when her childhood friend Lorenzo steps up to the plate and says he will take responsibility for the baby? Maybe, just maybe love was right in front of Antonia the whole time.
In part three, “One day as a Lion”, sees the eldest sibling Gianna fighting her own battles in the form of her violent abusive husband. While her siblings feel something isn’t right, it’s not until Gianna takes the law into her own hands that she call on them for help. Also there to help her is Luca, the handsome police officer, who specialises in domestic violence cases. He knows the truth about what happened that night, but will he risk his relationship with this Italian beauty, or call her out in her lie?
In the final story “Destined for You”, Carmine’s, the only son, life revolves around his family and the club he opened years before. There’s no room in his life for serious relationships……..until he meets the gorgeous Italian Natalia. Together they will share so many firsts for both of them, but will soon come crashing down once Carine learns the true identity that Natalia has been hiding from him.
A truly magnificent book that I enjoyed immensely. I’ve read Lyssa’s previous works, so I kind of knew what I was in for, BUT this book is like nothing she has ever written before.
It won’t be long into the book that you’ll be uttering little Italian phrases……
Bellissima, dolcezza, bellisima xoxox
I am so happy that there is a new series coming out revolving around this family and I can tell that it's going to be intense!!
Francesca DiDominzio, "Frankie", is 24 years old and an aspiring fashion designer. She has an opportunity of a lifetime to expand her fashion sense but needs the money from her trust to do so but her father isn't willing to let her for some dream of hers.
Guy Sillars has just left the army at 28 years old to deal with some personal issues back in Texas when he decides to go out in New York with his army friend Lorenzo Morelli. Lorenzo brings him to a nightclub and it is there where he meets Frankie and is instantly enchanted by her.
Frankie decides to concoct a plan where she pretends to have a boyfriend, Guy, in order to make her dad release her the money but soon she wonders whether this plan will work as she begins to have feelings for Guy.
As Guy and Frankie begin to grow closer the plan is jeopardized and when secrets about Guy's past come out everything could be destroyed.
I love Guy and how he pushes Frankie into believing she is capable and good enough to make her dreams come true! The DiDominzio family has many secrets within that I'm sure will come out in the next books and I anticipate many tears to come!! This book was a great introduction to the family and I love Frankie's determination of not giving up her dreams!!
2) Deep In The Heart of Texas
When Francesca heads to Texas to see Guy Sillars she is still battling her family at home due to him not being Italian. Yet when she gets to Texas she meets the woman who is holding everything up.
I loved this quick story and I think all the opposition to Guy and Frankie just makes me love them more!!
3) Not In Love
4) One Day As A Lion
Gianna DiDominzio has done what was expected of her and married an Italian man, Vincenzo Mancini but for Gianna it is her own version of hell. She keeps her pain to herself and although her sisters suspect something is going on she will not confide in them.
When police detective Luca Donati catches a confrontation between Gianna and Vincenzo he knows she needs protecting but is unable to do so at the moment. Yet by chance he sees her again and the two form a friendship.
Yet the friendship comes at a big cost for Gianna. Will she be able to protect herself and those she loves when it comes down to it?
This was a very emotional book as it dealt with a heavy subject - domestic abuse.
Gianna did not want any of her siblings to know what was going on and she tried to hide her abuse from her siblings, although they thought they knew what was going on. I think one thing that really bothered me (which the author was trying to emphasize) was that being Italian was so important and that an abusive man like Vincenzo was included in the family where as Guy was not.
I loved Luca and how he really tried to get to the bottom of what was going on and wanted to protect Gianna the best he could. Yet his friendship caused so much jealousy with Vincenzo that he put Gianna in more harm.
Luca's love for Gianna was obvious with the lengths that he went to protect her in the end! Great ending!
5) Destined for You
Carmine DiDominzio is the owner of a nightclub and has no interest in any relationships. He deals with the drama involving his sisters on a regular basis but still holds onto his Italian beliefs.
Natalie Fantin runs a non-profit organization for young women in underprivileged areas and meets Frankie when she comes to her store with some clothes. The two form a friendship and head off to Carmine's nightclub.
Yet Natalie has secrets and unfortunately so does Carmine's own father. When the truth comes out what will the two do?
I really enjoyed this chance to get to know Carmine better but I still have some reservations about him. For me one thing I didn't like was how opposed he was to Frankie and Guy through most of the series as he wasn't Italian yet he was so dedicated to Frankie and would protect their family at all costs. I was also mad at him from not realizing how serious the issues between Gianna and Vincenzo were.
That being said I looked forward to him meeting a woman that would challenge him and show him the love that he needed to have. I really liked Natalia and I was surprised at what was revealed about her. I liked that Carmine put his family first with the issues but that everything ended up getting resolved.
We are introduced to a family who loves HARD! Their passion is enviable, their protectiveness, admirable. Are they a tad bit dysfunctional? Thankfully, yes, which makes for a realistic joyride. The interaction among the siblings is entertaining in itself and will have you reflecting upon the relationship with yours.
So, sounds like a traditional family, right? Although they are traditional in many aspects of their lives, it seems when it comes to romantic love, they don't play by a rule book. Oh, the rules they break, and they are better people because of it. They show how love is flawed, but how lasting love is built on those same flaws, and through it all, they remain deeply rooted.
I highly recommend you experience these stories, and as an added bonus, walk away knowing a little Italian lingo. Not to mention, some really good curse words that you can store away for future use.
