When Love is Rekindled proves that marriages can be restored whether it's too high of expectations, adultery (physically, mentally or of the heart), addictions marriages that are built with Christian people or even a Christian person should not jump to divorce. The marriages in this book were what some would say are destined to divorce but through the power of an Almighty, Loving God they were able to restore their relationships.
If you or a loved one is going through trials in your marriage then I would suggest this book, I know I saw myself in some of these stories and realized things I could improve on. I'm not saying this book has all the answers, if there is violence then by all means get somewhere safe, but this does give solutions that helped the writers of their own stories and at the end of each story James Stuart Bell has included some insight that further drives home what each couple can do to restore or make their marriage better. Of course, if you have the perfect marriage then this book isn't for you.
**I was provided a copy of this book through Bethany House's book review program in exchange for my honest review, no other compensation was given.
I went into this book enthusiastic & it didn't disappoint though along the way it felt corny at times with some of the stories that are included and their rather "tiny" scope. But everyone has a story to tell.
Basically this is a collection of different stories by different couples in different contexts on situations/times/seasons that tested and almost ended their marriage. Each story is brief and is told by the spouse in the couple and shows what the problem was, how it got resolved and how that opened their eyes and hearts towards their spouse a new. At the end of each story the authority offers brief two to three paragraphs in summary form on the lesson learnt. If found this format quite effective.
This book offers a lot of hope, not in gut wrenching, jaw dropping extreme stories of redemption, but in mostly simple, everyday relatable situations that stay with you once you're done with the book. As the quote goes "rekindled love is the most tender". Read it in search of hope for your marriage/relationship.
This would be an excellent book for those who are just starting out in marriage, those who may be starting to struggle, or those who need affirmation and refreshing after many years of marriage. (We'll be married 38 years this year - and there were certainly some big challenges along the way.) I highly recommend this book. It gives hope - and many practical ways to achieve victory in a hard marriage, strengthen a struggling marriage, or maintain a good marriage.
