Firstly, let me say I read a lot of fiction. It floats my boat and takes me away to other places. Far away from the living room and bedroom where sometimes I feel that I am a prisoner held within the four walls. Non-fiction books - for me - tend to be for reference purposes only, for double checking things.
So I came to this book with an attitude of "Okay, I'll just check for typos and get through it quickly." But that's not the way that it turned out. I got involved in this piece of writing, SO engrossed that nothing else mattered - food, conversation... sleep. I almost forgot to look for typos, and THAT is a huge deal for me. Even with brainfog, errors jump out at me.
'Love, Forgive, Never Give Up' gives you exactly what it says on the tin. It seems a deceptively easy read at first, but parts of it are not easy for a compassionate woman to comprehend. Bill's childhood is harrowing, yet he tells it with clarity and honesty for the benefit of others. Surprisingly, he has forgiven, however he could've turned out differently, just like his bitter and twisted character Herr Graden in the 'Mars Journey'/'Mars Now' series.
Daniele too faced huge challenges: an incurable illness; her father's sudden death; depression; binge eating. She too bares her soul and inspires us. See also Daniele's 'Unleash Your Inner Diabetes Dominator' publication. I immediately clicked with Daniele, as I too live with an incurable disease. As I read, a phrase knocked me for six - BOOM! I won't say what those words are, as they might be your BOOM! phrase too. From then on, I devoured every sage word by this motivating team.
The reader has to put some work in, but the more you put in, the more you get out. This book is addictive, deserving to be re-read many times with your notebook and pen by your side. This beautifully authentic and truthful piece of work is a game changer. I'm deliberately not saying much about the content, as it has to be individually experienced, not passed on via reviews. Don't rush it, the reader is worthy of time, thought and love.
As I said when my musical hero David Bowie passed over, "We are all made of stardust, some more than others." Bill and Daniele, you have an abundance of stardust too and thanks for passing your light and wisdom on via your hearts and souls. This isn't just another self-help book, this is THE book to help you be grateful, love yourself, find your purpose, and stay the course.
I'll finish with a very relevant quote from Mr Bowie, "I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring." That's how I feel. It's the beginning of a new adventure. Take it with me. You won't regret it.
Love - you must start by loving yourself. Once you love self you can start to love others.
Forgive - like love, forgive yourself. Somethings happen to you that you cannot control. Forgive yourself for thinking that it is your fault. Forgiveness of self leads to forgiveness to others.
Never give up - probably hardest step. One that is nessary or we migrate back to the other two being needed again.
As noted before, these are highlighted by the stories of the author's on lives. This is not theory these people have lived it. They have put into words what I have tried to help people in churches I have attended.
That brings up another point. Usually when I am wrapping up a review I give recommendations of who should read it. This could be read by all ages. Everyone needs to learn these lessons. However, I would caution my Christian friends. While reading the first half I suspected the authors of having new age beliefs. About half way through and for a little while afterward that was confirmed. We disagree on the religious nature and that is ok. What is important is the lessons that they teach. It is important enough that these things need to be taught. I have been a group facilitator in a church where these concepts were taught. Please do not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
I received an ARC of this book. This is my honest review.
Daniele and Bill Hargenrader have written a book like no other. Part memoir, part self-help, this book is about discovering YOU. Every page is studded with empowering messages and life lessons. Readers will be inspired and empowered.
