As a Bible teacher and retired pastor, I have used literally hundreds of commentaries and other Bible study aids, but this particular book is one of the top three that I would recommend as being most beneficial to serous students of the Bible. (I would define "serious student" as one who is strongly motivated to obtain a deep understanding of God's Word from the Bible itself, by reading and studying the Bible in depth, using commentaries as an aid rather than as a primary source.)
(If you like this book, you'll also like its companion volume - For the Love of God, Volume 2.)
This is not something to be read by itself, but is intended to be read in addition to scripture on a daily basis. Also, I used the word "devotion", but this isn't the typical watered-down stuff you might read while on-the-go. It's meaty and will lead to further discussion in a group setting or conscious reflection if read alone.
