When the French and Scots united in war against England in 1385, Edward de Montfort was excited for the chance to finally fight for his country. Though this was his first battle, his courageous and clever actions resulted in him not only being knighted but asked to be in King Richard’s royal guard. After faithfully performing any tasks required of him, Edward is sent to Canterbury so he can check on the progress of a large wall being rebuilt. While carrying out this important undertaking by pretending to be a worker, he comes in contact with Lady Rosalyne Parry, an intriguing woman who assists her uncle with his paintings. Although the two are attracted to each other, both are hiding secrets about themselves that could affect a possible relationship between them.
Alexa Aston is an expert at combining real historical events with her own inventive concepts. Whether a circumstance was something that really did take place or was just an incident envisioned by the author, I never had doubts related to the likelihood of the event occurring. In LOVE AND HONOR, quite a few individuals from the time period make appearances or their names are mentioned. Also, certain factual conflicts or a specific happening is referred to on occasion, thus making the story seem even more convincing. There are a number of innovative ideas in the story, and the ones about Rosalyne and her unique talent as an artist are particularly interesting.
Since Edward was always the quiet child in the previous books in the series, I was thrilled to see his true personality shine through in his own story. He is a wonderful man who is very compassionate, yet he can certainly take care of himself and those for whom he cares when the need arises. His interactions with Rosalyne had me often smiling, as their budding relationship is filled with genuine responses and plenty of heartfelt feelings. When I think about LOVE AND HONOR, I will fondly recall the many captivating moments.
I’ve read every book, so far, in the Knights of Honor series and it's fun to see Geoffry’s and Merryn’s children grow up and find their happily ever afters. In Love and Honor, Edward comes front and center. He becomes a Knight (naturally), and finds himself serving a young King who has surrounded himself with questionable advisers. While this story does not take place in the court setting, Edward still encounters shady characters and he must serve his King and country as best as he can.
There’s always that one heartbreaking factor and that one character that you love to hate in an Alexa Aston Knights of Honor book.
Heartbreaking factor: Rosalyn’s back story.
Love to hate: Rosalyn’s uncles’ wife.
I was so incensed as I read the opening scenes but I was kind of relieved to get that over with because the rest of the book, I knew, would be worry free. (It’s that formula I was talking about). Except for that one admission towards the end which made me a little sad.
Insta Love: Not a fan, but somehow it works out in Medieval's. It’s a sweet romance with a little touch of heat.
Rosalyn and Edward are the perfect couple for each other and I just love their easy going temperaments. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and totally look forward to Hal’s story.
This book can be read as a standalone.
I encourage you to read this wonderful story of two people who are meant to be together but have some obstacles in their path. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!! This book was gifted to me
