Love in a Hopeless Place is a collection of three short stories and two novellas each with its own quirky uniqueness and moral plot. Following is a short synopsis from reading this distinctive collection.

Sub-Prime – Mike is recently unemployed as a truck driver going on two months during Christmas time with no way of paying the mortgage eventually accepting employment through an agency working on a farm killing live turkeys who befriends a co-worker while learning what friendship means.

Escape to Love – Maria is frantic that her daughter Lucy is not home from school at dark and worries when receiving news there are two escaped prisoners on the loose in the immediate area. Lucy returns home bringing a man who saved Lucy from drowning after she slipped and fell into the river.

The Chosen – J.A. lives by the words of a millionaire author whose book he stole from a bookstore. When J.A. is commissioned to paint an office building, he is optimistic of capturing a contract with the company for all of its facilities. An obstacle thrown in J.A.’s path sends him to the pages of his treasured book for a solution resulting in bad choices.

Angela – Joe arrives at the airport to transport a customer to their destination in his limousine and begins light conversation that turns into deep thought after years of the conversation first taking place.

Love in a Hopeless Place – Lyn is a forty-two year old married woman who has a night out with co-workers and experiences new feelings about herself prompting prominent changes in her uneventful life.

This collection has stories and plots that provoke questions and thoughts for debate and good conversation well after reading and recommended to readers of drama, crime, and family relationships genres.

I received this book free from Masquerade Tours in exchange for an honest opinion in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission guidelines.

This is a collection of five short stories each with their own unique presentation of human connection and how love and affection can grow even in the darkest or most unexpected places. I would have given this collection a five, however, I was particularly annoyed with one of the stories. The other four are great examples of storytelling and do not come off as typical or cliche "romance" stories. In each story the reader is presented with new and very distinct characters that evoke a genuine emotional connection with. This collection of stories makes the reader question their own perception of love and how it appears in the world around us. The one story I disliked was due to my inability to relate to the strange relationship that develops out of an extremely bizarre and unlikely scenario. Overall I was quite pleased with this collection and it made for a very quick and enjoyable read.

First of all, I have to say I absolutely love all five of these stories. They were all inspirational and motivational. I will tell you a little bit about the stories.

Sub-Prime was the first story. It was short and bitter sweet. It was about two people brought together by unfortunate circumstances. The moral is you have to do what you have to do to survive.

Escape to Love is the second story. This story is about an abused woman and an escaped convict. The story is so touching. She risks everything to help this man because he saves her daughter and because she loves him.

The Chosen is the third story. This story is real short. It’s about people working to keep their dreams alive.

Angela is the forth story. This is a short story. But it’s about a limo driver and a woman who can predict the future. She basically saves his life.

Love in a Hopeless Place Is the fifth story. This was a little longer. Its about a woman in a bad marriage.

With 3 short stories, 2 novellas The Love in a Hopeless Place Collection romance collection by Emma Calin is a great read. My favorite of the three short stories was Escape to Love. In Escape to Love a single mother on the run from an abusive ex encounters an escaped convict when he saves her Autistic daughter. The relationship that ensues in unexpected, raw, and beautiful. Angela is my favorite novella. It takes place in the back of a limo and features the interactions between the passenger, Angela, and the limo driver. The message was moving and has really stayed with me.

Emma Calin’s collection is filled with well written and engaging tales that are well worth the read. And at less than 200 pages it makes a great read for a lazy afternoon, a plane ride, or just about any time.

The Love in a Hopeless Place Collection by Emma Calin is a short collection of 5 romance and love stories that occur in interesting situations. One features a single mother of an Autistic girl who’s on the run from an abusive ex when she encounters an unlikely new partner. Another features a man trying to start a new business to be with his overseas fiancé when takes him on a tragic path. Another features a man who has a chance encounter that helps him to make the right choices in live.

All of the stories are well written and engaging. They make you want to keep reading. The two novellas featured in the collection even left me wishing that they had been developed further as they would have make great stories. Well done Emma Calin, I really enjoyed your work.
