I am sorry to see the author's Chicago Christmas series end. I enjoyed the first three, and this last one was no disappointment. The story is really heart-felt with characters believable and well developed. Laura Beth and Joe have loved each other since childhood, and although they are devoted to one other, family relationships and horrors of the Korean War strain their marriage. Then the unthinkable happens, an event so tragic it leaves both families reeling and Joe and Laura Beth in a downward spiral which seems impossible to stop. Will love win out? Read and see. Also watch for the Author's note. I was captivated to find that the plot and its characters were based on the real life story of her husband's parents. This was the frosting on the cake.

As a Midwesterner, who often visited Chicago in the 1950s, this romance includes well-researched historical details about Chicago, the era, and journalism. With today's talk shows, I miss journalists like a man from the Midwest Edward R. Murrow and his no nonsense straight from the hip reporting. Penny pinching and waste not, want not was a way of life, as was the fear of polio, cancer and other diseases. Aubrey Wynne blends history with a nicely paced full of family dynamics love story. Nice addition to A Chicago Christmas series.

She describes life before, during and after the Korean War, and the lives of the families of the bride and groom living and suffering through this period of time in gripping fashion. For the Love of Laura Beth is the fourth book in A Chicago Christmas Series by Aubrey Wynne. This is a wonderful, moving historical romance, set in and around the Korean War. This “Christmas story’ is woven around friendship, family bonds, sacrifice, resilience, strength, determination, overcoming obstacles, love, and drama.
I loved the way each chapter starts with an inspirational quote, as this added to the whole ‘feel’ of the story.
A very emotional, well written and thought-provoking read. The characters really made the story for me. It was entirely realistic, relatable, and believable- because Ms. Wynne has a talent for weaving (real) historical elements into her stories and bringing everything ‘to life’!
Looking forward to reading more of Ms. Wynne’s work.
