Since I read each one of these books, one right after another, it is hard to remember where each one started and stopped off, so I will just tell you what I thought of the whole series (so far).
First, it was hard for me to like Lily. She seemed to be so cold most of the time—even though it was mostly a front. Lily has 2 obsessions—books and finding out about her past. Because she loves books she works in a college library. Unbeknownst to most people there is also a hidden room beneath the library that houses magical books and artifacts. It is here that Lily studies her magic. Lily is a wizard and her friend Sebastian is a witch. Their personalities and skills are both so different from one another that it is hard to believe that they become best friends. I really found myself confused as what the difference is between a witch and a wizard. My perception has always been different than the way it is explained in the story. All the witch stories I have ever read were about witches casting spells a lot—but according to these stories, witches are self made & not born with any magic & don’t cast spells—but wizards are born with magic and they cast spells.
Most of this series is about Sebastian getting into trouble and needing Lily’s help—except for the very last book—book 3. In that book it is the other way around. Lily and Sebastian do a lot of good by helping others so Lily can’t really complain too much about all the trouble that Sebastian gets her into. In this series you will met a talking cat, pixies, and other magical beings. And of course, there are a lot of bad guys to cause our heroes a lot of grief.
I only have a minor observation about this series but it does not take away from the stories. It is about the weather in Georgia. The author got the geography right in the stories, but I don’t think she has ever spent time in the winter there. I say that because I have lived my whole life in Georgia (69 years) and we have a lot of cold winters. Mostly we have ice and now and then some snow. So she is incorrect in her description of our weather here—it is not warm all the time even though now and then we do have a mild winter. I live not too far from Atlanta so we have about the same weather that Atlanta has.
Each one of these stories can be a stand alone book but read them all in order so you will understand better where all the characters are coming from. I enjoyed the series and am looking forward to the next installment. I got these books with my Kindle Unlimited account so you probably won’t see verified purchase at the top. There were no steamy sex scenes and no profanity in these stories—which I really appreciated.
It was cute, with a nice writing style and decent proofreading. There was an interesting adventure. I couldn't get very attached to the characters with something this brief, but I'm still looking forward to reading the first book.
Maybe I would have gotten more out of this short novella if I'd read at least one of the main books. But it was still cute. 3-3/4 Stars.
