Parents are still the most important influences in any child's development, and Corbett's "Love, Limits, Lessons: A Parent's Guide to Raising Cooperative Kids" offers sound advice for parents based on discipline, involvement and compassionate strength. The author confronts the contemporary social climate head-on and offers solutions that work today based on values that have worked across generations.
Corbett's entire book resonates with the concepts of Black Belt Mindset, especially the concepts of discipline and gratitude which the author blends masterfully:
"It's definitely a different world than the one we experienced as children. We work harder to day to create comfortable lives for our families and it's hard to accept that our children don't seem to appreciate what they have and what we do. In so many ways it's become a world of instant gratification with just about everything available 24/7 for our convenience. But it's up to us to teach our children gratitude through the example we set and the discipline we use at home.
"Some parents think that discipline simply involves actions you take when your children misbehave and act out. It's not! As a variation of the word `disciple,' which means to teach or train, discipline means `the training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior, especially training that produces moral or mental improvement,' and it's an opportunity we have ever time we are with our children..."
If we want children to become productive, responsible and happy adults we must be disciplined in training them to be so and we must discipline ourselves to lead by example. It's often said that children are the future; if so, the training and guidance you give your children shapes that future.
I am always optimistic about our future. I see remarkable parents and amazing children every day. "Love, Limits, Lessons" will help shape that future by helping struggling parents overcome challenges, by helping good parents become better and by helping those considering parenthood prepare for the adventure!
