Gavin the goof. The lovable goof. First dude listening to your friend Tyler on the to do list to get Charlotte is okay but letting him put on it what he did too much but gave great entertainment. He had such bad luck with that list. From the vomiting, Grandpa’s vitamins especially right before the ribbon cutting (this had me rolling), to his aunt and uncle and their education they gave him in his office and on the whiteboard no less was just so so funny. I never stopped laughing throughout the whole book. Even Tyler with his my little ponies and his anger over Twilight sparkle had me rolling.
Every character was awesome and so goofy. Gavin was fun and sweet. He was a little bit awkward at times but I think it was because he was trying to get Charlotte, both his and her parents were giving advice and planning the wedding while the moms were arguing on who got to wear blue, Tyler was giving him advice and making fun of him, and he wasn’t feeling to good about the outcome of it all.
Charlotte was a fun girl. Kind and sweet as well. these two belonged together. they fit one another and helped the other gain confidence and feel the could be who they are without having to pretend anything. I love when they finally come together..It was sweet and precious. These two are just two cute.
their parents are a blast and Gavin’s grandpa and best friend Tyler were to much. These side characters just truly have you laughing and in stitches. When we get Charlotte’s view it is a hoot to find out where she stood. I loved getting Gavin’s view though because it was so unfiltered and hysterical.
the story is lighthearted and precious. Hysterical and just a fun romance that has you entertained. You get lovable characters, a no angst story (except what Gavin gives himself ), laughter and joy throughout as you smile and laugh so much your side hurts. A wonderful read and perfect funny love story.
You do not have to read the series of books to understand this one -this can be read as a standalone book. But it's super helpful and worth it to go back and read at least Seduction and Snacks first. It's just too funny not to read first.
In this book, Gavin Ellis has taken over the production side of his mother's successful business (Seduction and Snacks-a chain of sex toys/bakery). The partner to this business is his mother's best friend, Liz. Liz has a daughter who is three years younger than Gavin, Charlotte. Charlotte and Gavin have grown up together since Liz and Claire (Gavin's mom) are best friends and business partners.
Gavin has found himself now in love with his best friend, Charlotte. What to do? Come out and tell her? Of course not, then we wouldn't have a book to read.
Thus, the antics begin...
The tone of the book is light hearted, humorous, a bit raunchy and immature. It never tries to take itself seriously.
Case in point, the book starts with the line, "Can someone die from a severe case of blue balls?" So you know what you are in for. Silly raucous and romantic fun.
The plot itself is silly, almost like I was watching a sketch comedy show. One bumbling scene after another. Gavin is determined to win Charlotte over and decides to make a list of things that will win her attention and heart. One failure after another, Gavin just can't cut a break. But his attempts are prankish, immature and plain stupid at times. If written by any other author, I don't think I could have finished this book, but Tara's sarcastic humor just makes me laugh and compels me to read further.
The first half of the book is written from Gavin's POV, then the other is from Charlotte's POV. I really liked that. It was interesting to see how things are so differently interpreted by the different genders. Luckily for Gavin, Charlotte is just as naive and silly as Gavin. They should be suited well for each other.
This book has the great humor. It's immature, crass and raunchy. Love it.
But the plot was sorely lacking and there was little character development little depth.
I still had to give it 4 stars - because I love books that make me laugh out loud.
If you need deep plots, lots of sex, or need to see huge character development in a book, this book is not for you.
If you want a light-hearted, laugh out loud funny (but it's immature raunchy humor) - this is for you.
I will admit that I was resistant for the first few pages. I really feared it'd end up so over the top that the annoyance factor would overcome any humor. Luckily (at least for me) it didn't.
I laughed so hard through at least 80% of this book. The plot was very simple, which I think was a good call on the author. The characters didn't have great depth, but they still managed to be likable and entertaining.
Yes. The humor is crass, crude, sophomoric, and even excessive and annoying. Yet..and it's a big big YET...the author managed to create a balance that kept it from becoming tedious. Well done, Ms. Tara Sivec. Well done indeed.

5 hilarious gut wrenchingly funny stars!!
Tara Sivec never ceases to amaze me, I would love to go out for drinks with this woman because I am sure I would have a blast. Her sense of humour is off the charts funny and even if you were in the darkest of bad moods her books just lift you out and up and you find yourself needing incontinence pants. I literally had to cross my legs as I was laughing so much, my sides hurt and my face ached! My husband thought I was a raving lunatic and when I finally stopped laughing enough to repeat what I had just read, I always cracked up laughing again before I got to the punch line, but even he couldn't stop laughing either! Tara you are totally and utterly brilliant!! After all the gut wrenching tear jerkers I have read recently, this was just what I needed. A real laugh out loud book, therefore, read it in private else you could be carted off to the asylum in a straight jacket!!
This is the story of Gavin and Charlotte, Gavin is the son of Claire and Carter and Charlotte the daughter of Liz and Jim. Gavin and Charlotte have grown up together, they are best best friends, they tell each other everything...well nearly everything!!
Gavin loves Charlotte and Charlotte loves Gavin, but neither have told the other. They each come to the conclusion, with the help of their other friends that they each need to make a list, a list to make the other notice that the other exists in more than a "best friend" capacity...and so the fun and frolics begin!!
Gavin enlists the help of his best friend Tyler, who I absolutely adored (Tara, he needs to get a book too!!), what could possibly go wrong with a list titled "How To Make Charlotte Bang Me"... a lot!! Especially with entries such as "Show her your penis." I felt so sorry for Gavin, not only does he take the advice of Tyler, but also Drew and Jenny!! I mean Drew and Jenny!!! If you thought that those two would have grown up now that Gavin is in his mid twenties, you would be mistaken, they are still the same hilariously funny, crude, nymphs around. Too many cooks and all that = car crash and what a car crash this is, but it is just sooooo funny.
Gavin painstakingly one by one crosses off the items on "The List" and each time he tries to tick one off you know that a hilariously funny scene is going to take place. I do not want to say too much as it will give the story away too much and this must be read to be truly appreciated. I will leave a few bullet points for you to look out for though:-
My Little Pony - specifically Twilight Sparkle lol
Grandpa and his pills
And my personal favourite Spider Man
"You are a disgrace. Your mother should have swallowed."
This is a brilliant short fun read and if you are a huge fan of the Seduction and Snacks series, this is a MUST read. I can't wait to read more about these kids and as their parents show no sign of growing up AT ALL, you know that you are going to be in for a barrel of laughs going forward. Totally and utterly AMAZEBALLS!!
Gavin is now grown up (sad I know, where did the time go) and is madly in love with his Aunt Liz and Uncle Jim’s daughter, Charlotte. Having grown up together in the shadows of Seduction and Snacks, which would be disturbing for anyone let alone children, Gavin and Charlotte battle their way through childhood with their parents hoping they realise their feelings for each other before one of them murders the other.
Both unable to verbalise their feelings for one another they set about putting together a list of ways to attract the other. As you can expect from two individuals with slightly deranged parents, and even more deranged friends, aka Jenny and Drew, the lists are far from conventional.
Gavin, ably or not so ably helped by his friend Tyler, puts together a list entitled “How to make Charlotte Bang Me Love Me. And Turn into a Giant Pussy”. That’s bound to be a success, right!!! When the list involves Gavin’s penis, cheesecake and puke what could go wrong. After introducing the “man” Charlotte has asked to be her fake boyfriend to make Gavin jealous, she ups the ante and introduces downright wacky into the mix and the fun and games begin.
I was so pleased to see Drew and Jenny return without having lost any of their absurdness and honestly, I love the Jenny-isms!!! You know she’s got to you when you realise what she’s trying to say before it’s been explained, she is truly a gem of a character.
Looking back at the chapter headings alone makes me cry again, who can forget Spiderman, The Telephone or Gag the Groin Ferret.
There is really so many fabulous moments throughout this book which will have you laughing until your sides split or you are ready to shout MANGINA.
Just like everything Tara Sivec writes, Love and Lists was hilarious and fun. I absolutely love this group of characters! I cant believe foul mouthed four year old Gavin is all grown up working at a Dildo company and talking about sex!
I loved it!
"You're probably also wondering how in the hell I can possibly be twenty-five years old when just yesterday I was four. I know, it's a tough pill to swallow."
I had the biggest grin on my face the whole time I was reading and couldn't stop myself from laughing out loud every other page. My ribs actually hurt!
I can't end this review without quoting a few of my absolute favourite sentences...
"I think your daughter is dating the president of cum guzzlers university."
“You spidermanned the one you love.”
If Tara Sivec could bottle up her humour and wit and sell it in a bottle the world would be a happier place!!!!
I loved Gavin so much in the first books as a child he just killed me with laughter!! As an adult, he cracked me up even more!! This is another fabulously funny book by one of my favourite authors! I laughed so hard!! I whenever I see, Chapstick, mustard, goats, Taylor Swift and a telephone I will always have a goofy grim on my face because of this book!!
