***** Slight Spoiler from this point on*****
Since her Father came from the present time and not the past there were some things that weren't explained. How did he meet Nigel in the past? How did he find a place to stay when he arrived in the past? How did he know Lucy? What did he do once he went trough the tree, did he hide in the Harrington's stable? It didn't exactly add up as far as his part went but the rest of the story was all explained and for the most part the important questions were answered and the mysteries were all solved. I will be following this author and the rest of this series.
Halle Chapman travels to Buckland Manor in search of the father she has corresponded with but never met. She arrives with her friends to discover anything she can about her father who's last known location was at the manor. There she meets the mysterious Andrew a worker with secrets. Andrew appears aged and sick but Halle is strangely attracted to him. This attraction will lead Halle on a journey she never could have imagined to a place she always wanted to be.
I look forward to her sequel to this story coming out in 2014.
It has a couple holes... Which I can't point out without giving spoilers.
Regardless, it was an enjoyable read and I would consider the second story in the series. Ms. Higgins is a good storyteller and I am curious to see where her world takes us next. I would rate it a five stars for the fact that I had a hard time putting it down, except that I didn't feel that way until I hit a fifth of the way through.
I adore Halle, the heroine, and I love how she weaves her way into this unfamiliar landscape of the Victorian era, using her love of history and her huge heart to become part of a family and someone who makes ripples of change where change seems impossible.
