“If you’ve ever been on the receiving end of guilt that you know is not yours to hold, or been the one to hang on to a love that’s not there, this book is for you. It’s okay to move on, and it’s okay to let go. It’s okay to be happy.”
So many people live this existence and I felt that Anna Brooks told the story very well.
Rayne would seem like every other young twenty something from the outside looking in. She works for her parents at the family diner. “The Lunchbox, is known for its delicious homemade soups and sandwiches. That’s the only thing on the menu. We serve fries or chips as well but the small menu and quality ingredients make it a hit, especially with the locals.” She is hiding a big thing from the outside world. “Each day that passes is just that… another twenty-four hours added to the days since he’s been gone.” She is happy to exist in the world she has built around her, her comfort zones in place. “I love few things in life. My parents. Cooking. Dancing. And my boyfriend.” Oh, and her best friend Kennedy and his fiancé Brad. “I love them for standing by me and supporting e and being my rocks over the past couple of years. When I didn’t think, I could handle things anymore, they gave me hope. When my hope started to deplete, they filled me up with the love I was missing. When my love turned to anger, they made me laugh.” Life is all peachy, until the day she meets Brad’s cousin, Vaughn.
“I know his kind. Cocky. Player. Man whore. The kind of man every woman wants to change. Including me.” She immediately knows this man will be the undoing of everything, her very weaknesses will be violated just by being around him. The feelings she first experiences when she meets him are enough for her to push him away, even as a friend. “This can’t happen. Something like this can never happen. I won’t allow it. I refuse. I’ve kept my word for the past two years, and now is not the time to begin wavering.”
She is not given much of a choice to face her demons when she realizes that Vaughn is renting the space next to the diner, and opening a tattoo parlor. Vaughn is not perfect by any means either. He too has his struggles with the past and is weary of letting his heart feel anything for anyone, let alone a woman. “While some scars left behind are physical, the wort ones can be seen. They hurt just as much, if not more. I’d rather have taken the beatings over the verbal lashings any day.”
Then there is the ultimate love triangle twist of all. Bryan, Rayne’s boyfriend, has left Rayne with a past and tortured fears of the future. “Hey it’s Bryan. I can’t answer because I’m doing something awesome, so leave a message…”
This book really explores a different spin on a love triangle and draws you in on that big piece. It is just extra goodies when the backstory of Vaughn and his past as well as her friends Kennedy and Brad are brought into the story. I was hooked from the beginning till the end in one sitting. I will say that some of it dragged. That is the only reason I didn’t rate five stars, because several moments I was frustrated with Rayne and the time it seemed to take to get from point A to point B let alone C. Otherwise great standalone read.

5 out of 5 stars
The story Love, Me: A Pleasant Valley Novel by Anna Brooks is a romantic suspense book. This is the story of Vaughn Morris and Rayne Garner. They meet when Vaughn comes into Rayne’s parent’s restaurant for a meal. Both of them have a past and are not looking for a relationship. Both have secrets that they are guarding. A friendship starts and then moves into something more. However, the past has a way of catching up. Will they be able to overcome their past so that they can have a future together?
This is the second book in the Pleasant Valley series and I love it just as much as the first. It can be read as a standalone however I suggest reading them in order. I love them both. Not only does this book have a wonderful storyline, the characters of Vaughn and Rayne are awesome. Vaughn has come back to town and opened up a tattoo shop. His life has never been easy and he is haunted by his childhood. He also made mistakes that he has tried to make up for. Vaughn doesn’t believe that he deserves the love and friendship that Rayne is offering. This has a lot to do with the secrets that he keeps. At first, both Vaughn and Rayne don’t seem to be able to get on the same page as to what they want. Then as time goes on they both begin to open up to each other. Will Vaughn be able to reach out and hold onto the love that Rayne is offering him?
Rayne is a woman that made a promise when she was young and now is living a life that is not her own. She doesn’t realize how much she is missing out on until she meets Vaughn. She also is very confused and conflicted on how to proceed, can he be just a friend or does she want something more? Rayne keeps giving Vaughn mixed signals and this leads to conflicts. Rayne does have family and friends that care about her. She turns to her friends for advice. Can Rayne overcome her past so that she can start a future with Vaughn? Once I started this book I had a hard time putting it down until I was finished. I was rooting for Vaughn and Rayne to get their HEA. The story is told from their POV. This book does include adult language and mature content. It would be recommended for those 18 years of age or older.
Author: Anna Brooks
This is a Pleasant Valley Novel, however this is totally a stand alone book. Anna Brooks, pulls you into her books. The strong characters and the chemistry between them all. I have read everything this Lady has written and I am a true fan.
This book is a romance, with a hint of erotic flare. But not raunchy. Still mature audiences are suggested as there are sexual encounters.
Rayne helps her family with their restraunt and is in denial over the loss of her boy friend. Even though it has been 2 years, can she put him to rest and move on with her own life? Can
she find her happiness again? At the urging of her best friend Kennedy and his fiance Brad, Rayne tries to let go of her past.
Vaughn is from the wrong side of the tracks, but he has grown up and made a name for himself. He is now a highly sought after tattoo artist and has been featured in magazines. But has moving back to Pleasant Valley been a mistake?
Both Rayne and Vaughn are fighting demons from their past, but will the past come back to haunt them? Will they lose what they have found with each other? Will Rayne leave him when she learns the truth about what happened 8 years ago?
Wonderful story, Anna Brooks pulls you in and makes you feel what the characters are feeling, the love, the fear, the anxiety, and the hope as well as the loss. Great read as are all of her books!!
