AND Paris. AND twists and turns. AND deception. Everything you need in a compelling read. :)
(While the first two books in the Broken Dreams series are YAs, this one features characters aged more into the new adult range. So get it. Read it. ENJOY IT.)
Love in B Minor has a lot going on throughout the book----there's the sweet budding romance, the annoying ex girlfriend, lots of secrets, a bit of danger and a bizarre twist as the story comes to it's peak. At the end, I was left sort of scratching my head over the way it all went down. I'm still conflicted over how I ultimately feel about the entire story. I liked it but didn't love it, it was okay but not great.
I am a big fan of Elodie Nowodazkij and her Broken Dreams book. This is the third book in a series of books that can be read alone or as a series. This is the most "adult" of the books and it was really a delight to read. Jen Harris is a dance, living in Paris and trying to survived after the loss of her little sister. Jen has locked her emotions away and the story begins with Jen finding herself in a situation where she has a one night stand with a handsome man. She feels comfortable with him and lets herself just be for the first time since losing her sister. Told in alternating viewpoints, Lucas Will is a rocker who feels drawn to Jen as she is to him. The morning after they are together, he is dispointed that she is gone because she has unlocked some emotions in him that he has been missing since his ex broke his heart and his bestfriend died.
Through twists and turns, Jen and Lucas find their lives intersecting and realizing their relationship started as a lie. They gave each other fake names and Lucas forgot to mention he was a well loved rock star. Throughout the story I believe their relationship grows and is believable. I like the way that they each helped each other to move forward from a broken heart and found someone to look forward to the future with.
There are some MAJOR twists and I have to admit I didn't see things going the way they did (but I'm NOT complaining!) I love a book that keeps me on my toes and surprises me, This book did just that! I can't wait for another Broken Dreams novel!
I also liked how real they seemed, just ordinary people with extraordinary talents. But even fame and notoriety didn't prevent them from feeling the same loneliness and grief that anyone would.
Plus, the mystery. I won't give anything away, but things start happening with the band and, for awhile, I had no idea who to trust.
I've read all the books in this series and I'm glad Jen finally got her own story. I always knew there was more to her than the "mean-girl" personality she hid behind.
