Love Notes is a touching YA story about developing a sense of self worth that I just loved. A beautiful first effort from Gunter. 4.5 stars from Tami-Into the Night Reviews
OMG there are no words that can accurately express Love Notes by Heather Gunter. She has transcended the heart, emotions, of one girl and the lives she has touched without even knowing it.
OMG! This book is so powerful! It made me laugh, cry, scream and yell, and even want to kick something at one point. 5 stars-Erin Danzer
Really loved this story!!
This one hit very close to home and I hope a lot of people will read this book so they will maybe understand better that it is not easy for somebody to openly communicate about verbal abuse.

This story deals with emotional abuse. Just because you can't see visible bruises or scars doesn't mean it is just as damaging to someone. Often times it is worse. The verbal garbage that was spewed to Charlie was... I can't even put to words what I felt. All I can say is I really hated her father and her mother for the way they treated Charlie. Her father was the worse with the verbal abuse but her mother was just as bad even though she never said a bad word towards her daughter. She continued to let her husband mouth off one nasty remark after another and never said a word.
This abuse continued for years until Charlie's dad relocates him to another city. Here she starts a new school and has the unfortunate luck of running smack into the schools gorgeous and hot quarterback named Maverick and he sends her falling flat back on her ass. Well who knew that moment would be the start of a great relationship. She also finds a true friend Tori that shows her how awesome she is also. I really loved watching Charlie slowly come out of her shell with Maverick. He loved her the moment he met her and I really thought this was going to lead to a HEA for these two. But then we all know that is all great love stories that is never the case.
This story is definitely a book that I suggest reading. It will suck you in and make you lose time. If I had it my way I would have read this straight through and not even realize I did that. It was that good.
Charlie is constantly moving around with her parents. She has never stayed in one place very long. She starts her first day of high school in a small town in Georgia. Her home life is less appealing and she is counting down the days till she can go away to college. The first day she ends up crossing paths with Maverick, the star football player. Seems he is drawn to her and wants to get to know her. She can't believe it and it definitely takes some convincing on his part. He has a lot of work ahead of him, no one has ever told her she was worth something. She has been constantly verbally abused at home. The thing is everything she has been told is nothing further from the truth. She is beautiful inside and out! That is the way Maverick sees her. Now it's all up to Charlie if she belives him or not.
I liked this story most for it's characters and issues. I felt for Charlie, I mean I felt like crying for her. I also thought sh was a very strong willed character throughout the book. When she was happy I was happy, and when she was sad I was sad too. Maverick on the other hand was such a beautiful boy. His parents showed him love and affection. That is exactly what he gave to Charlie. Something she never expierienced before. Something that some of us take for granted I think. These two were a beautiful pair. I believe that they could get through anything life throws at them. One that is strong and unbreakable.
This should definitely be read without a doubt. It is emotional, raw, and about so much more then music.
Charlie has never had it easy in life, constant moving, receiving verbal abusive fat comments and jokes from her father and no protection from her mother. Charlie will learn that the only way to have the power to overcome her issues, is to face them head one. Music is the only thing that keeps her sanity in check until she meets the town star quarterback, Maverick.
Maverick and Charlie run into each other in the hallway and either one cannot keep stop thinking of each other. Charlie of course thinks Maverick is gorgeous but she knows that he wouldnt ever go for someone like her.
Maverick thinks Charlie is beautiful in her own way and he wants to get to know her better. There will be a lot of trial and obstacles in their relationship proving it to Charlie may deem harder than Maverick thinks, especially when tragedy strikes and tears them apart.
Will Charlie be able to stand on her own two feet and will Maverick be able to be there for Charlie through his own obstacle to face.
