Review

I'm always nervous about trying a new author. I needn't have been with Maria Macdonald. She drew me in Characters who were normal, and my goodness it was refreshing to see normal! and the Glossary at the beginning..... PMSL! - Shutupshabby

This book is so remarkable. I can't stress that enough. You just have to experience this yourself -NABookAddict
This is a great debut novel by Maria. She had me hooked from the very beginning - straight away we are given precious knowledge, past and present, of the main characters and the special bond they share. I love this group of friends, I want friendships like these... who wouldn't? And to be fair, whilst reading Maria's carefully crafted words, its hard not to feel like you are there beside them all, living through everything with them! Within this diamond of a debut novel there is everything you could ask for and then some. - dt80
With an interesting cast of characters, this book is exciting, refreshing, and the vast array of twists and turns as secrets and truths are revealed is astonishing. This book will keep your attention, have you gripping your seat as the story unfolds, and have you quickly one-clicking the next installment of this amazing series. - Twisted Book Curmudgeon

I found this to be a gripping story of four friends who stuck together through everything life had to throw at them. Pea, Con, Soph and Saul, grew up together with a load of memories that carried them through the darkest times. Between love, friendship, struggles, loss and disappointment, it was clear there was always someone from the group to stand up and be the leader, to carry them through the storm to the safe side of life.

Pea and Con are the two main characters whose story will take over at times. Pea is an introvert; she has always been the quiet one. Her mother died when she was young and her grandmother raised her. With her passing she finds the only family she has left are her three friends. She and Con had tried to take the friendship to the next level and things seemed to always derail the plans. Secrets, travels, misunderstandings prevented them from finding her happily ever after with the only man she has loved. She is haunted by a tragedy involving one of the gang and a box that she keeps ignoring in her house. When she meets Dane she thinks that maybe there might be something there, she feels comfortable with him and he works with Soph, but he is also holding secrets and how involved is he with Soph anyway.

Con has always felt protective of Pea, she took his heart. He is finally at the point that he accepts they need some space and he moves off to another country. He has no clue the secrets that she has kept, secrets that will shatter his heart and could be the thing that keeps them apart forever. He longs for the missing member of their foursome, but he also knows life goes on and it kills him to see Pea so shut off and living in a world of guilt.

This was a genuinely great story based on secrets, sadness, loyalty, love, heartbreak. Although this was mainly Pea's story, there is more than one main character. They are all best friends, but even more so, family. Maria did a great job incorporating them all into the story, without overloading us with too much at once. You will fall in love with each one. The way Pearson suffers in the beginning of the story leaves you with a sadness hanging over your head. Her secrets unfolding page by page. She meets someone and he completely brings her back to life. She decides to be a better friend and to fight for love, after wasting ten, long years. She also gets a nice surprise towards the end. Each friend has suffered from some kind of loss, but they have each other and it's a beautiful thing! There was only a handful of sex scenes in this story and the funny thing about it is, I didn't mind a bit. The story itself is was captivated me from the beginning. She deserves every star.

The thing I love most about blogging is finding a gem of a book and getting lost in it, you know, the sort of book that has you thinking constantly and turning the pages as fast as you can, the sort of books that keep you up until the early hours? From the first chapter of love reflection I knew I had hit blogging gold.

From the off we meet Pea and her 3 friends that have been together forever their relationship is endearing and the love they share is apparent. It's hard not to want to be part of the gang and the way Maria writes, drags you straight in so you feel like you're one of them.

We find out that Pea and Con have been in a relationship but fate was not on their side, they still share a close friendship but it's purely platonic, cue the perfect setting for a second chance romance. The problem is Pea has secrets she's hidden from Con that mean their path to true love is anything but easy. Throw into that the mystery shrouding Saul and then the arrival of Dane and the possibilities are endless.

I love the way the book is written, it jumps from past to present but in a way that is not confusing or at all awkward. When Pea interrupted the present with her flashbacks I got annoyed thinking I want to know what's happening now and then as soon as I started reading the flashback I didn't want to go back to the present! My brain was conflicted what I really wanted was to know what was happening all at once, infact I wanted to know what was happening so badly that I stayed awake until 2.30am (even though I had to be up for work at 7) just to finish the book! I read the first 5 chapters separately and then devoured the rest in one whole sitting. Maria wrote beautifully and I was gripped from chapter to chapter.

Love Reflection is a story of friendships, very close friendships and how they transcend time. I loved this story, right from the get go. There are so many twists and turns, things I just didn't see coming and reasons why the heroine Parson is the way she is. Con, Pearson's on and off again boyfriend is gorgeous and I can see why they went through so many ups and downs, mostly caused by Pearson's attitudes, indifference and the tragic loss she endures.

Without giving the plot away, I will say that I really enjoyed this book. It had the right amount of everything for me. Maria Macdonald's debut book is a "must read" for all romantics out there who like a bit of spice as well.

Awesome book, I give this five bright golden stars
