It seems like a deceitful way to get people to order more than one book from this author.
The heroine, Cora, was born into wealth and privilege but spent 5 years in prison. Her family turns their backs on her and she must rebuild her life, with her nephew (who she finds she has guardianship) in a small town in the house she inherited from her aunt. Added to the complications of her life is the sheriff, Virgil, turns out to be a sexy yet sweet war hero. But after that time in prison, she’s not sure she can trust any man. The past won’t leave her alone but does she have the courage and strength to persevere?
I found this world fascinating, like watching an old movie. The dialogue is witty; the characters different and intriguing, with some good, others horrible and some just plain narrow-minded. I admit I am not a fan of cliffhangers, but in this case five books of the series are available now so I will be picking up the rest of them very quickly.
I really liked the plot and would have liked to see some closure (almost any would have done--but nary a one was in sight by the end of this first book. About the only closure might have been that the 'mean old neighbor' actually takes her part and stands up to others in her behalf. I received it free on my kindle, but even that isn't very consoling with no closure.
No thank you. I read the free book, but I really don't care enough about these milquetoast people to even care about 'the rest of the story'! I have put this author on my permanent Do Not Read list.
