From the Author

Love and Shenanigans is the first book in The Ballybeg Series. All the stories in the series can stand alone (HEAs guaranteed!), butthey are set in the same small Irish town with a recurring cast ofsecondary and tertiary characters.

While my Ballybeg is fictional, its geography is based on the towns ofCobh, Kinsale, and Clonakilty in County Cork. All the other places Isend my characters in this book and the other books in the series arereal--Cork City, Doolin, the Burren, Lisdoonvarna, Blarney, Galway,Dublin, and so on.Ireland and the Irish are steeped in a unique history and culture and Iusethese aspects to flavor my stories.

As a writer, I love playing with popular romance tropes and giving them my own spin. For example, Love and Shenanigans is my Vegas-wedding-with-a-Celtic-twist. Love and Blarney is my marriage-in-trouble story, and Love and Leprechauns is an enemies-to-lovers romance.

I am not a huge fan of a cute and fun read, but every once in a while a book comes along that gives me the mental break that I need and this time Love and Shenanagians was it. The romance, humor, twists and surprises were a very nice balance, giving me a few hours of just being able to enjoy the characters and their story and not have my mind and heart exercised to the point of exhaustion.

Gavin has had his fun in life, he has been to Vegas, love women, enjoyed himself, now he has found the one he is happy with. Her family approves, he does what she says, and he has bought everything they need for a future, what could go wrong? Well the floor is about to drop out from under him when Fiona rushes in to let him know that not all things in Vegas stays in Vegas. That fun night they had of drinks, flirting and oh yeah getting married, wasn’t over, they were still married.

Needless to say Gavin’s fiancé and her family were not pleased with this and set out to make Gavin suffer for the humiliation they experienced. Gavin was in his own hell, not able to see that this affected more than himself and Fiona was determined to remind him, this has a way of screwing up her life as well. Nothing is going to come easy for them and there isn’t that instant oh let’s just make this work. I found a realistic touch to an insane situation with this story. The funny thing is for all of the pain his fiancé and her parents were trying to inflict on Gavin, I think that is what pushed he and Fiona together even more. If you can win against that crew you have a magical team.

As the two try to figure out how their marriage was never ended, they have to deal with the fiancé’s family trying to stick it to him.

Fiona Byrne is feisty, curvy, and head over heels for Gavin Maguire. She was manipulated into not only attending his wedding to her high-maintenance cousin, but is also in the wedding party. Problem is, Gavin is already married – to Fiona. After a drunken night in Las Vegas eight years prior, they’d exchanged vows. Now Fiona has to put her dream-of-a-lifetime trip on hold to sort out the mess and take care of her injured aunt.

Gavin Maguire has always like Fiona, he just didn’t expect to still be married to her when his bride is walking down the isle. There goes his bride, job, and home and perhaps any secure future as an architect. Yes, he’s attracted to the happy go lucky Fiona, despite her somewhat wild clothing. But, does he really want to remain married to her when so much in his future is on the line?

Fiona and Gavin grapple with their feelings for each other while trying to keep their lives on an even keel when chaos has erupted. Their interactions are witty, fun, and sexy. The characters are engaging as the reader feels as if they are sitting at the kitchen table talking with Fiona and her Aunt Birdie.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and can’t wait to read the rest. Zara Keane has used her Irish roots to write a story in contemporary Ireland that is fun, smart, and has the reader so hooked you don’t want to put the book down until you’ve read every last word.

I would give this one three and half stars. Muireanne and Gavin are about to get married. Fionna has to attend her mean girl cousin's wedding and then she is off for that world tour she has promised herself and saved for. Oh and Gavin the groom and she had a drunken night in Vegas. Everyone in America knows what happens in Vegas doesn't necessarily stay in Vegas.

What I liked: Fiona was smart and has overcome a lot of her issues. She has a good heart and can dish it back. Loved the dog and the BFF. The descriptions of Ireland were very good, which makes the book more interesting to American readers.

What I did not like: Gavin was a bit of a tool. Could have used a better hero.

Zara Keane is a new welcomed voice in Contemporary Romance. If you looking for crisp, clean writing, engaging dialogue, steamy sex, and too many laughs to count, you’ll find it with Love and Shenanigans, the first book in Zara’s Ballybeg series! I haven’t read many current day romances set in Ireland, and Love in Shenanigan is set in a small town of Ballybeg, which was a nice change. The setting is flavorful and the characters as well. You’ll feel like you’ve been transplanted into this colorful world Zara has created.

Thee laughs are plentiful here, especially with Wiggly Poo, a rambunctious labradoodle that causes so many problems throughout the novel. This pup is one of the many reasons Love and Shenanigans was such a hoot to read!

Fiona returns to Ballybeg for her cousin, Muireann’s wedding. Fiona and the bride don’t get along at all, but Fiona sucks it up and doesn’t want to cause a problem. Soon she’ll be on her grand holiday to Australia. Her cousin’s husband to be is, Gavin, a man Fiona has known for most of her life, and who she once had a crush on. She finds out right before the wedding that she is still married to Gavin. A few years ago she and Gavin ended up in Las Vegas, got drunk and married by Elvis. They didn’t think it was the real deal and forgot about it. It has come back to bite them big time. Now Gavin is in the dog house, so to speak, because Muireann hates him, and her powerful, rich father wants to ruin him. Fiona has her own problems because her beloved Aunt Bridie, who took Fiona in after her parents died in a horrible car crash, has an accident and can’t run her bookstore. Fiona takes over for Bridie and stays in Ballybeg until she and Gavin can get an annulment or divorce.
