A review for The Romance Reviews

LOVE THE SINNER is a hot M/M romance between good guy and bad guy, cop and robber and all that, but it's the amazing visuals and the intense emotions the author created that made this book for me.

From the moment police detective Gabriel Ashby met gangster Angelo Pagan, he knows that his life is going to be different. He is straight, has never looked at another man "in that way", but he is instantly attracted to this man--a man...and a criminal to boot.

Angelo Pagan knows he shouldn't be attracted to the cop, but he can't help it. And when Gabe is hurt during one of their run-in's where they are on opposite sides of the law, Angelo risks everything to check on his cop.

As the attraction becomes undeniable, the risk becomes even greater. And love may be the only thing worth that risk.

I just loved this book. The tone of it was dark, almost visceral, and I felt like I was transported into the seedier side of life as I was viewing it through Angelo's eyes. It's not often that I root for a "bad guy", but I was rooting for this bad guy all the way. I could see what Gabe saw in him, and I wanted desperately for Angelo to see it as well.

I'm not usually a fan of the "Gay For You" trope, but I loved the way this author handled Gabriel's feelings about being with a man. It made me more invested in the characters and made me wish harder for the relationship to work against the odds.

The plot was nail-biting at times, frustrating at others, but through it all, it was immensely entertaining. I could not stop reading because Angelo and Gabriel had their hooks in me.

Overall, I thought LOVE THE SINNER was fantastic. With the great characters, the depth of emotion, and descriptive writing, I was taken on quite the ride. I haven't read anything by Avril Ashton before, but I'll definitely be looking out for more of her work.

The premise of this book drew me in with its bad boy falling for a sexy male cop amongst the world of gang violence. The sparks exploded between Gabe and Angelo across an interrogation room table and what followed was an extremely erotic gay-for-you story that kept you on the edge of your seat as retribution was slowly being doled out.

Angelo was left no choice but to become gang leader after the murder of his father. He doesn't enjoy committing violence but to avenge his father's murder and keep his neighborhood clean and safe he'll do whatever must be done. As the death toll towards his family climbs he starts rethinking his future plans. An unexpected encounter with sensitive and sexy cop Gabe finalizes his decision and as they get closer together Angelo's life is put even more in danger.

Angelo is to die for, utterly delectable, and I can see why Gabe is drawn to him even though he's never been interested in men before. He oozes sex appeal and you could feel his animal magnetism whenever he came on the scene. Gabe was a sensitive soul and always wanted to see the good in Angelo. He purposely set aside what he knows of Angelo in order to have a relationship with him. It didn't seem realistic that he could live with himself knowing the crimes Angelo had committed and this does in fact finally pull them apart.

Their relationship is one big up and down emotional rollercoaster ride as both want nothing but the truth from the other. Their sexual interludes are extremely intense and erotic and almost overwhelm the story in their frequency. The eroticism once or twice edges close to violence as each man stakes his claim over the other.

Gabriel Ashby is a 'straight' police detective who falls in love with Angelo Pagan a notorious gang leader who commits unspeakable crimes. This is unheard of. Gabe's life is all about protecting society from the scum that is Angelo Pagan. Unconditional love teaches both men to look at what is in their hearts first. To look beyond what each other does for a living and into their souls. Gabe finds out that beneath the criminal there is a man who loves his family and will do anything for them. He finds a man with integrity, character and heart. Angelo finds the same in Gabe. I loved how the author gave complete background on each man so that you saw what made them into the people they became. Angelo is cold when he is a criminal but you see him being vulnerable with those he loves. You want to hate him at the beginning but as as the story unfolds, you start liking him. You know what he does is wrong and although you want him punished you can,t help but root for him. I have to say I was happy when he killed the guy who tried to kill Gabe. I felt his rage. The author made me think for a second how I would react if someone tried to harm someone I loved. Wonderful story.

Maybe you wouldn't expect much of a book that basically is, well, porn, but I'd say that even porn has standards. This story is sooooo bad I couldn't force myself to read it past the first 49%, and boy, I tried. The allegedly straight cop is such a wuss and so gay you just don't believe his story. Too needy and doesn't even think twice anout bending the rules for a criminal he's sleeping with and supposedly seeking to put behind bars. The criminal? Yeah, I don't buy his story either. Which part? Any of it! So what's left? Oh yes, the sex. Well... the plot and character development is better. It's just too corny. When you put the book down in the middle of a sex scene and pick it up a couple of days later becaus3 you decided to go read some homoerotica... that tells you something. Oh, and the inserts in Spanish? Annoying. I speak Spanish, I speak mixed Spanish with other languages, and this sounded like a weak effort to add interest to the character, make it cool. All it achieved was to make me want to gauge my eyes out.

Sorry, no. The idea is good though, so I would advise to throw this out and start over again.
