This is a short read with really likeable characters and a HEA that is perfect.
Sydney and Brody have been friends since high school and both have harbored a crush on each other through the years. They're both adults now and don't want to ruin the friendship. THAT, I get. Brody has been dating (screwing) town hottie Cherry McCoy for an unsaid amount of time all the while warning guys away from Sydney because she belongs to him.
So, Brody has been going about his day to day activities getting to relentlessly bone Cherry while sabotaging Sydney's chance to get any. Even going so far as to set her up with his cousin who treated her like crap and ditched her at a bar out of town leaving her to call a cab to get home. All this due to Brody's insistence that NO MAN lay a finger on her and subsequently treat her like a buddy instead. That's not even what ticked me off and forced me to put the book down!
What ultimately angered me was Cherry, Brody's current cum dumpster. Yes, she's described as the town sweetheart and everybody loves her blah, blah, blah BUT, she's not! At least not to me because a woman who claims to have "known for a while" that Sydney and Brody had feelings for each other, yet has continually slept with him to the point where just a few pages before this revelation she even sauntered up to both of them bragging about how Brody just left her bed? That's a straight up c--nt! Now she's claiming she wants to help Sydney open Brody's eyes to the fact that they belong together? Ugh! Gag me with a rake! PLEASE! I couldn't go any farther. On top of that, getting to graphically go inside Brody's mind during the sexual innuendo "Cherry A La Mode" moment that turned him on while he was longing for Sydney just made me feel icky.
The unfairness of Brody c0(k-blocking Sydney but still getting his rocks off and the whole "Ex f#@% buddy helps new love interest" shtick just DIDN'T do it for me. Very sad. I had been missing Valentine's writing so I jumped back in with this one but now I don't even want to read the other books in the series. I guess I'll stick with my Holland Springs goodness. After all, that's where the real magic is.
