Found this to be an excellent compilation of novels with the emphasis on both love and war. And, all of these books I found to be well written and held my interest.
Most highly recommended.
While I loved each book, there are two that really stood out to be and was able to really connect with the main characters. Two Hearts Unspoken by Tamara Ferguson is the first one, Beth is a single mom of a son with autism and Zach is a wounded veterans who is searching for life after Iraq. These two are so lonely and missing something in life. Together they find just what is missing and discover love can help the both so much. The second story that I loved and connected with was Returning Home by the Sea. Having married before he left, Brayden and Zoe were untied with such love, passion, and desire. Upon coming home they both wonder if they can survive a homecoming. When our guys get home, sometimes the homecoming is nothing like they show on TV and you know the person that will be walking through the door won’t be the same one who walked out.
Here is the title of each book and the rating I give them all.
5 stars book- Two Hearts Unspoken by Tamara Ferguson, Broken Wings by D.G. Torrens, Returning Home by the Sea by Traci Hall, Moving To Forever by PJ Fiala.
4 star books- Lovin’ Those Navy Games by Susan Jean Ricci , Genteel Secrets by PJ Fiala, Mademoiselle by Suzanne Jenkins, The Magic of Snow by Regina Puckett, A Weldon Family Christmas by Jennifer St. Giles, A Soldiers Promise by Angela Kate, The Rebels Redemption by Jacquie Biggar, and Dancing in the Air by Uvi Pozansky.
Overall, all stories have shown the effects of war not just on those that are active but those that love them fiercely. I give this set a total of 5 stars!
Even though I loved every single novel in the set, I would like to single out my favorite one, “Genteel Secrets” written by one of my favorite authors, S.R. Mallery. “Genteel Secrets” is not just a love story, even though the romance between the two main characters was one of the things that I enjoyed immensely in this novel, but it’s a meticulously researched historical fiction, which deals with the espionage, questioning of the moral right of one ethnic group owning another, polar views of life by the Confederate South and the progressive North and many more important issues.
I really enjoyed the setting of the novel, which reminded me of “Gone with the Wind” a lot; and just like in this well-known classic our main character, Hannah, is a spirited, fearless girl who is ready to fight for what she feels is right, despite the protests of her family members and general opinion of the southern society of that time. I absolutely loved how well-read she was and how much interest she showed in politics and current events, even though her outspokenness, both in words and deeds, was something that was frowned upon by society. And when she got involved with something much more dangerous than expressing unpopular views, I couldn’t turn pages fast enough to find out how hers and James’s, her beau’s, story would end.
I highly recommend the whole set for all fans of historical fiction genre! Each novel will touch your heart and will stay with you for a long time. Five very well deserved stars!
