The first thing you’ll notice is the size of the book. It’s produced with the pages wider, which gives the reader a more wide view to enjoy. Next is the cheerful face of the sun and then you see that the illustrations were made from clay.
My LOVE for You is the Sun is written in rhyme. Each beautiful two-page spread has three lines of verse, the first line makes a statement, the next two lines rhyme and expound upon the first. The exception is the last verse which has four lines with the second and fourth rhyming. Example: My love for you is the sun. Rising in your tender heart, It shines on you when we’re apart. From there with each page turn you discover more about what a parent’s (or guardian’s) love is: a tree, a river, the rain, the wind, the snow, the ocean, a star – each bringing comfort and reassurance to the child.
This is a smartly written story. With no extra words, no words missing, the nature setting makes very clear the love for the child. The detail in the illustrations is amazing.
PB&Js from this reader!
I was drawn into the first page, literally. I found myself looking at it very closely to inspect the medium used. My untrained eye tells me it’s completely made out of clay (or some substance like clay.) and the most intriguing part is how the use of light makes the book feel three dimensional. Kids, and grown-ups too, will be drawn to look at the pictures to see the detail. The reflections of the ducks on the water looks as it should if it were a photograph, and the detail of fur, feathers and flowers will keep children’s eyes focused on the pages.
The illustrations alone made me instantly like it, and then I began reading. A mother is talking to her new baby about all the love she has for him. She’s comparing all of her love to the organic parts of our beautiful world. There’s something about those sweet rhymes that makes me feel reassured and comforted. This book is a great bedtime story for young children. I imagine it being a favorite for many, not only because it’s a quick read, but there’s just something about baby animals that everyone loves.
This is a definite must-buy for a mom to be.
