About the Author

John Borgstedt is a native Texan with a special love for nature, blue skies overhead, and a unique brand of protective maturity for the young and innocent. His flight and fight for survival throughout young years instilled a heartfelt desire to help another. After much contemplation on how to accomplish this goal, John felt he must share the unspeakable horrors that he had survived throughout his childhood. Perhaps the exposure of truth would heal and mend the society that had failed him. During the research through medical and legal records, flashbacks of long buried memories sprang forth, re-opening deep dark wounds of physical and emotional atrocities, but John did not waver from his objective. Thus I LOVE YOU, MOM, Please don't break my heart is among fine literary works written for 'righting wrongs' and improving the world for future generations.Borgstedt is rapidly becoming a noted motivational speaker for young and old alike. From school children and faculty to correctional institutions with hardened criminals to devout Christian church groups, John's message of hope, love, and determination touches the hearts and minds of his audience. Indeed, fans and followers of John Borgstedt patiently awaits the day that his vision for establishing a boys ranch becomes a reality. This warrior for 'right' is not a quitter.

John Borgstedt's compelling book - 'I LOVE YOU MOM, PLEASE DON'T BREAK MY HEART', relates the incidents of his childhood abuse, and surely represents millions of voices never heard. He was beaten down physically and emotionally without mercy - ever bit as badly - as if a POW victim. Hundreds of times John was taken to the edge of death - before his mother would relent; and was later threatened and injured by other abusers. He was drugged to the point of paralysis, beaten, battered, burned, nearly suffocated, humiliated, and starved, amid many more atrocities. However, his story isn't vindictive, intent instead as a tool against child abuse existing in our world today.

What an incredible testimony against abuse and of our Savior that saw him through to survive it! --his escape from the spidery tentacles of an apparent, sociopathic mother, and hot-tempered father (a police officer at the time), along with being victimized by the corrupt found in social institutions. It is a story that will sober errant children (complaining of good parents as bad), and give hope to those abused - if either are privy to excerpts from his story. Singled out from his other siblings - for abuse (as sociopaths often do), other insights unfold.

It occurred to me that he had lived a lot like a bull rider who only has to stay on a bull for 8-seconds to have victory. Only John, a small and helpless child, had to hang on for dear life on a daily basis and on into adulthood - before his victory could be claimed.

Read his book... read 'HIS LIFE'... You'll be holding on to every word and unable to lay it down.

As a victim of child abuse myself, I have never read a more accurate portrayal of how the rejection and abuse of a parent can affect a child. John's story struck a chord deep inside of me, at times bringing tears to my eyes. I felt like I had finally found someone else who "GOT IT". This book is so heartbreaking honest that you can't read it and not want to wrap your arms around this young man and hug the little boy who is on the cover. It is not easy to expose the horrors of child abuse. This is a brutally honest portrayal of one families devastating secrets that quite nearly destroyed a young man's life. Given a second chance by God, John fully uses it to turn his life around and use it to help the unknown numbers of children that are still being abused today. A must read for anyone that works in any child related field.

My husband and I read this book just before volunteering at a summer camp for kids in foster care system. Not only did it break our hearts, it gave us new "eyes to see" the children we met at camp. John details horrible experiences, not begging for pity but asking that readers open their eyes to what's happening around us and open our hearts to the children who are helpless to change their circumstances. I applaud John's honesty and sincerely urge others to buy this book.

John is an amazing man who endured horrific experiences during his childhood. Thank God he is a man who looks in the mirror and wants to make a change so hurting children will not hurt anymore. When I began reading his book, I could not put it down! The times that I did, I imagined this innocent child, who just wanted to be loved by his mom, physically and emotionally in pain and that saddened me. After I finished the book, my immediate reaction was,"what can I do to help a child not go through this suffering?" It just makes you want to get into action. I'm proud of John for having the courage to stand up for children and use his past to help children have a better future. This book is a must-read! Buy one for yourself and one to share!

Every once in awhile readers find a book they wish they could give more stars to. Such is the case for me with "I Love You Mom: Please Don't Break My Heart." This book absolutely shattered me. I have no idea how someone can not only survive such horrific trauma, but go on to lead a successful life. Not only just as a human being, but as an advocate. I'm having such a hard time putting my feelings into words, but will try to do so.

I felt such anger towards his mother. And the system...it failed him miserably. He was failed by basically every single adult in his life. To come out better is nothing short of a miracle. That speaks volumes to me about the type of person he is, and the strength he has.

I don't like to post spoilers, but will leave you with this. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK. Then go give your children extra big hugs and tell them you love them.
