2012 debut album from the British Indie singer/songwriter. Charles has been described as ''an epic guy who is too cool for the charts''. He's a multi-instrumentalist as well as a classically trained singer. Having been writing music since he was 17, in 2010 he won the International Songwriting competition.

King Charles is a pop/indie/folk artist that tends to jump around genres and experiment with pop goodness
He is a mustached man dressed in Victorian styled clothes while sporting a long mangled head of hair. His character is definitely likable, and fits his lyrical tendencies of massive metaphors and love stories galore
His skills are definitely his catchy musical chord progressions and his rather intelligent lyrical mindset, he plays around a lot but in the process he makes deep yet very catchy pop songs (which not a lot of artists can do)
My opinion on each track (feel free to disagree in the comment section!)
#1 LoveBlood - 4.5 stars - A nice start to the album, energetic, very Vampire Weekend-esque
#2 Mississippi Isabel - 5 stars - A cute piano filled love song with a random electric guitar, very pop/indie/folk
#3 BamBam - 5 stars - Upbeat song with belting vocals and amazing energy, another pop hit
#4 LoveLust - 5 stars - Starts off as a serious love song with a simplistic sound/piano, gets into a rocking guitar and bass synth that really sets the song off
#5 Polar Bear - 2 stars - Starts off interesting/sexy, cool instrumentation until the chorus which is filled with lame lyrics and a synth that sounds like it is directly out of GarageBand/Fl Studio. His weakest song by far, lacks his usual, solid musical/lyrical prowess
#6 Lady Percy - 4.5 stars - So fun, a love story about a girl we don't know much about other than she builds guns, fixes cars, and breaks hearts. He has awesome steel drums on this track, really reminds me of a Disney song in a good, not cheesy way. Not as rocking as his 5 star songs.
#7 Ivory Road - 4.5 stars - A beautiful song, filled with thought-provoking metaphors and pretty guitar chords, my only problem is that the Live Black Cab version of the song has another very nice verse, so I like that version more than the album version (especially because he plays it perfectly live!)
#8 The Brightest Lights - 4 stars - So folksy, featuring Mumford and Sons, pretty catchy song, but not King Charles enough for me (usually he is crazy innovative lyrically and catchier), great song nonetheless
#9 Beating Hearts - 4 stars - A pretty song, very calm, the lyrics flow across the song beautifully, the lack of variety and rockness is what is lacking for me, but it is a great song nonetheless
#10 CoCo Chitty - 2.5 stars - Sounds like a rock-alt song from the 90s with a folk background, the catchiness is not there at all, neither is the lyrical intelligence. Has an interesting, too-heavy-for-the-song guitar solo that keeps my interest
#11 Wilde Love - 2.5 stars (almost 3 stars) - Starts off adorable, interesting melodic arrangement, sort of overly epic (his style sometimes), but then the children come in, what was he thinking???? The song was good, but the children or whatever that chorus is sounds horrible production-wise and vocally. Also a bit repetitive (which I usually forgive for awesome vocals, which this song does not have)
Album = 4 stars (close to 4.5)
There are many amazing songs on this album, but the album is dragged down to the 4 star mark by some odd song choices tracklist-wise. The King has other songs that fit the album much better (were previously released with album tracks on EPs), so I am confused by the thought-process behind some of these songs. He is a very open, and innovative man musically, and I guess to be able to have these huge, great pop-songs, there has to be some other innovative songs that fall short: innovative in the wrong direction.
I almost bought this album pre order. But I would preview it and think that it wasn't for me. Well I wish I had so I could have been listening to it longer!
If you have listened to some short previews of the songs and not sure. Listen to some full tracks on Youtube. I bet there are some full songs on there. Hopefully you will love it as well!
Long Live The King!
