I wanted to love this book. I really, really did. I've read Fiona's other books and have thoroughly enjoyed them. After reading the blurb, I was excited to dive into this book. It started out strong, got stronger, and then it slowly fell apart. Initially I was angry because Carina--sweet, funny, lovable, Carina--was a third wheel. At least that's how it felt although the author leads you to believe Jackson is the third wheel. Trust me, he wasn't. Carina was an afterthought. She was used over and over again for these two men to come together and for one of them to accept himself. I understand the journey one must take, but to hurt some one you supposedly love, to drag them and their emotions through the mud is just plain wrong. I loved that Jackson and Jake ended up together, but I hate that they hurt Carina so bad in the process. The cheating ruined the book for me. I found Jake to be selfish. I fell in love with Jackson in Voyeur, but he frustrated me so much in this book. He didn't care at all about Carina and her feelings--he says he does, but he doesn't. He wanted one thing/person and that was Jake. Carina who? These men didn't deserve her forgiveness. I realize i will be the minority with this review and don't get me wrong, the writing itself was great. The story just fell apart for me. I wish the author wouldn't have led us to believe this book is a full menage relationship. Because IT. IS. NOT. This is a MM love story and a beautiful one at that except for the way they threw an innocent, wonderful woman and her love into the mix. I just couldn't get past the cheating. I hope Carina gets her HEA.

Incredible combination of erotica and heart, The Lovers is truly fantastic from start to finish.

Whoa. Talk about one of the best one-handed reads I've had the extreme pleasure to enjoy. The Lovers is unbelievably sexy. Unbelievably erotic. And extremely well-written. Fiona Cole knows how to turn up the heat while giving us a story that is believable and full of heart. I honestly thought it would just be a very wild m/m/f adventure but I didn't count on the gut-wrenching emotions this kind of arrangement would invoke. And neither did Carina, Jake and Jackson.
Jackson. I wanted to find out his story since meeting him in Voyeur. I knew there was so much more behind his 'carefree' exterior. His hidden pain and his past play a huge part in this book. There is a true connection between him and both Carina and Jake right from the start as they embark on this new sexual adventure. And I was immediately caught up in this forbidden kind of triangle and the feelings just below the surface that couldn't be denied. The looks between Jake and Jackson. Their past finding it's way to their present. With Carina in the middle of all the hard-bodied goodness, not knowing just how far this arrangement would take them.
I was continually surprised at the turns this book made. I loved that all 3 were strong-willed and determined to find the balance missing in their lives. I didn't foresee how it might all turn out and I was glad of that. The Author does a great job providing the right amount of angst when needed with the ability to get Jake, Carina and Jackson to finally own their feelings and find a way to move forward. I appreciated that she didn't make it easy for her characters and that they all had to dig deep and attempt to figure out a new norm.
The sex is off the charts white hot and each and every scene was both necessary and addicting. All 3 needed each other in different ways and their time in and out of the bedroom solidified that. There is also a bit of humor that can only be shared by old friends and lovers and it is perfectly placed.
The ending is truly beautiful and I'm happy with the way things turned out. Perhaps the amount of hurt thrown around would decimate most relationships but Carina, Jake and Jackson dig deep to salvage what they all worked so hard to build between each other. Their maturity is what makes this book work so well. They are all business people and even when they don't know what they truly want, they at least try to decipher their feelings as best they can. I really do adore them all with Carina being the hellfire neither man can resist. I loved her spirit and her desire to show up her chauvinistic father. With her penchant for naughty, she is quite the woman.
I do hope there is more in this universe of characters. Daniel, as the owner of Voyeur, is a solid force and I want to see more of him. In addition, without giving anything away, my wish is that the 'odd man out' gets their story told next. They deserve to find a bit of happy too.
I sincerely love this book and the passion that was a part of every page. Whether it was satisfying or distressing, it simply worked and I'm happy to have the chance to experience it.
Cards of Love: The Lovers is the ultimate in tantalizing and heartwarming, which is clearly a combination you don't find everyday. And worthy of a huge 5+ stars!

4.5 stars. I have been curious about Jackson ever since meeting him in Voyeur. There was nothing not to like about him, he was so good to Oaklyn in Voyeur as a friend that I was eager to read about his own story and how he fell in love with a guy who did not reciprocate. So this is that story from the past and moving forward into the present. Except this book is not only in Jackson's POV, but also Carina and Jake. Jackson and Jake were the best of friends in college. Jackson was openly bisexual, with a preference towards males, whereas Jake was very much heterosexual. So when one night blurs the lines, Jackson finds himself without a best friend anymore and it crushed him, along with some other devastating events in his life. Jake, on the other hand, is now currently engaged to Carina, a longtime friend, and they work together at their fathers' company. Jackson and Jake cross paths again through their jobs and then move into this tangled path of lovers that includes Carina. This was probably some of Fiona Cole's best writing yet. Sure, it was super hot and steamy with all of the expectation of erotic excitement, but the story behind it was the real draw. Because here we have Jackson, whose feelings for Jake haven't dwindled, but Jake doesn't swing that way, or does he? Carina and Jake are a happy couple who bring Jackson into the fold of a sexual threesome, but it becomes more intimate than that and remember that saying that three's a crowd? Where does Jackson fit into this picture and who is truly the outcast of the trio? Is it Jackson or Carina or Jake? Or can this stay as a trio? I loved getting into each of their perspectives. Of course I was rooting for Jackson the whole time, but that's not to say that I didn't want to see Carina or Jake happy either, because they are rather likable, too. There's no villain in this book, each person brings a solid and strong dynamic to the story and of course someone will be pushed out at the end. But it is Jake who holds the key as to which way the story concludes and his character development is the most fascinating of them all. I couldn't say for sure that I knew how this would go because there were so many possibilities, but ultimately, it worked out the way it should.

Emotional and Sexy! A MUST READ!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 24, 2018Verified Purchase
Fiona Cole never ceases to impress me with her stories and how she masterfully portrays them. Her writing is fresh and original and screams to be read and read again. Lovers was no different, you think going in that you know what it’s about and how it’s going to go down...but, it turns itself around and surprises you with the turns it takes. Definitely not your typical MMF story. The happily ever after isn’t easy, it’s a war that will leave you exhausted after each battle. And that’s what makes the end so wonderful. Knowing what these characters have endured to get to their HEA. When I first read Voyeur and met Jackson, I knew he was someone special and I was incredibly excited when I found out he was getting his own story, Fiona didn’t disappoint. The steam level is off the charts. I’m talking fist biting, panty exploding sexy. Seriously, I think my scale is broken - it was hotter than hot and it fit so perfectly with the story and the characters that I never once questioned a scene. Each one had a point and progressed the story. The chemistry was jumping out from the page, grabbing me and engrossing me in their story. These characters had me laughing...a lot, the banter is spot on, and , we all know I’m a huge banter fan. The emotion had me getting a little choked up on a number of occasions. The struggles they experience especially Jake, was almost palpable and had me sitting back and shaking your head and having an understanding that I wish I didn’t, because I wanted to dislike him...just a little, but, it’s just not possible. My heart broke for Jackson, Jake, and Carina at different times, the raw vulnerability that they showed really hits you in the gut.
I feel that Fiona took this storyline in a different direction than what is expected and I loved that. I love that she didn’t take the easy route to get the HEA, she made them work for it. Carina’s father deserved a throat-punch whilst being kicked in the balls - I’m disappointed that didn’t happen, but, we can’t have everything!
To give you an idea of how much I loved this book, I stayed up until 4am to finish it, and when my baby woke me at 7.30am, I picked the book back up and started it again. I’ve added it to my list of 2018 favourite books. Definitely one to add to your must read shelf.

I love the characters and how real this story could be with Jake struggling with his feelings for Jackson whilst trying to give Carina what she wants and needs. But with friendship’s mistaken for love and vice versa, can everyone in this relationship be happy or will there be heartbreak?
I loved this book! It’s an MMF/MM romance. There’s lots of hot and sexy times but also heartache, guilt, and angst. I highly recommend it to those who don’t have a problem with cheating in fiction.

I’ve read many books by Fiona and they are all absolutely brilliant. Lovers is so erotic and heartfelt I couldn’t put it down. Jake and Carina are engaged, Been best friends forever and are really happy. Fate brings Jackson into the mix, an old college friend of Jake’s who hadn’t seen each other for five years. What follows is a story of love, heartbreak, sadness and happiness. And did I mention how erotic the story is!! Absolutely brilliant. A must read.

Didn’t realise going into it it was an MM book which I generally am not very interested in reading, but this one was well written with the right amount of emotion. It was a bit long though with a lot of back and forth which got a bit boring. Author is a good one though. 3 stars
