Incredibly well developed, Jackson has crafted characters that you feel invested in and connected too, even Nicholas- though it is Lacey and Kienan that draw you in from the very first moment. They take care of each other, in fact – they always have, just as Nicholas was supposed to care for Lacey.
Engrossing from the first page, this is a story that builds and wraps around you.
Nicholas is in trouble. In over his head, he decides to use his sister as a means to get what he wants and damn the consequences. Filled with family history, betrayal, backstabbing behavior, conniving scheming, and mutual attraction, this story has all the makings for a great story.
I enjoyed all the details Jackson put into her story from the minute details about the weather to the descriptions of characters help to draw the reader in and follow along. In fact, there are some great lines in the story. For example, “I love you Nicholas, you gator back butthead, don’t ever scare me like that again….” (I love it!)
Unfortunately, for me, the large number of grammatical issues that litter this novel from start to finish spoiled the story. It was difficult picking up pace in the story only to slam to a stop to figure out what it was the author meant to say. This is another one of those stories that could be so much better with the use of an editor and that was disappointing to me. If grammar doesn’t sway you from a decent story, then give this a go. Overall this is an excellent story with something for everyone. Plenty of secrets, lies and deceit for an excellent start to the series. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the next book.
