Love's Illusion is very different from anything I've read of theirs before. Completely different writing style, with the authors telling the stories of four characters (roommates) each getting their love story, instead of concentrating on the two central characters (which was very unexpected from the blurb) mostly in third person.
The main characters of Nash & Flo are on a journey to finding themselves, Nash after the tragic loss of his career and Flo as a slightly overweight, gamer whose never been in a relationship. These characters felt familiar and I enjoyed observing their journey. Sadly, I never felt that I completely connected with them but I think that had a lot to do with my personal preferred writing style of first person. I'm used to a raw, powerful emotion with these authors but didn't feel quite that connection. The characters of Juliette, Mr. Starbuck and Selena are engaging and quirky and give us funny moments in the book. We see Kade Turner again from Healing Melody, as well.
It felt a bit like a prologue to something as we're meeting these characters, especially with the change in the writing style. A certain departure from what I'm used to with the Grey's but all in all, a cute, quick read.
Florence "Flo" is a game tester who is also developing her own game in hopes that it'll break through the competitive gaming industry. But first, she accepts an intern job doing game testing for a well-known company, and it's far away from home. She lucks out and finds a nice home to share with roommates, Selena, Juliette and Nash. The home is Selena's rich uncle's home, and he is away in Singapore for business. He has no idea that Selena is renting out rooms in his home for extra cash as she is trying to break in to the DJ scene. Juliette is from France and moved to LA with a former boyfriend who turned around and dumped her after getting an acting gig. And Nash is a quiet guy that keeps to himself and doesn't reveal much. Nash had a chance to become a big NFL football star in his younger days, but ended up in a car accident with a drunk driving friend injuring him to the point where his football days were over.
Flo hasn't really had much of a great self-esteem being a little overweight, and not your typical LA gal that you'd be used to seeing. She has been in contact with a gamer that she has had rather steamy encounters with through the game they play. She uses her avatar as herself for the sexual encounters as does the guy she's interacting with. Another reason she did take the internship in LA is because that's where her "dream man" of the internet is from. She keeps it a secret for a while to the guy that she's in LA as she doesn't want to disappoint the man in how she looks in real life. She's also very determined to do her best as an intern, but one person keeps her from reaching her full potential, and he happens to be her manager. In the process of her internship, she wants to try and introduce the game she's developing in hopes that the company would be interested in the game.
She develops a camaraderie with the brooding Nash, and even gets him smiling and laughing. Something he hasn't done for quite some time. Nash feels a connection with Flo. Flo asks Nash to train her to get into better shape before she meets her internet guy.
While all this is happening, we also follow along a journey with Selena. She's DJing a wedding and comes across a man there that she normally wouldn't be interested in as he's too 'preppie' for her and her more 'rough-around-the-edges' persona. The more she hangs out with Matt, who is a motivational speaker, the more she finds she's attracted to a man who is so opposite of her. But she finds she is having a hard time letting go at the fact they are so different, that they may just not be compatible despite the undeniable chemistry.
Juliette provides web-cam sex to paying customers. She has a regular who is a married man that just gives anyone the heebie jeebies. But then along comes a man who calls himself Mr. Starbuck that gives her pleasure like she's never experienced even if it is through webcam.
Nash and Flo's relationship starts to blossom as well as all of the other characters'. I only wished there could've been a sole focus instead of 3 different stories. I think it would've made for a good series.

What I enjoyed most about Love's Illusion is watching all book characters living life to the fullest they can while also going after their dreams are at least attempting too. Flo doing what she loves with her internship while also making her own video game, Nash finding what he wants to do with his life once he pus football behind him, Selena doing what she needs to do to earn the money to go on tour to up her Career, Juliette wanting to get back on her feet and try to find love.
This book is great, This book has so many different characters point of views and their stories, I have never read a book before with some many POV's and I loved it. Flo moving from home to get her life where she wants it with the gaming world, Nash finally seeing that football is just not going to happen with his bad arm, Selena and Juliette with their man troubles, Flo with work problems with one of her bosses that can make all her dreams disappear. If you like stories like this, then Love's Illusion is a must!
